Thanks Seemore and Deb! I only hope to be half as good as Steeler thinks I am!

I don't have a pet in the house, but do my trout in my pond out back count? I do feed them. :)
Nice looking pup SD ;D

Just guessing here but that just had to be the Mr. of the Mr./Mrs. Seemore combo :o
I only have these guys. He's a black scottie, Sebastian 23 months old, she's a wheaten scottie, almost white, Sasha 21 months. This pic shows exactly what they do best. Ugly guy in the middle has a BDS 4 rack.

Great looking Dogs, KY! Doesn't matter the breed, they're the greatest! Hey, you aren't the lead singer for Alabama, are you? ;D
SD,
If Randy Owen knows where you live, he is gonna come kick your posterior! This is a temporary hijack of a thread but I have seen those guys several time. The first time was just as their very first album was coming out. They appeared in the local high school gym here. It holds about 3,500 people and it wasn't half full. 6 months later...FAMOUS!!! You never know what "no name" group you go see is going to become someday. Never underestimate great talent. The trick is to recognize great talent!
Now, back to great puppy pics.
KyNola
Hey KY,
I've hijacked more threads than the Mafia in the SoHo district ;D (For those that don't understand that, rent Goodfellas). I'm not scared of Randy........I gotta have 20 years of youth on my side and can still run pretty fast ;D
My wife, obviously, is not great at picking out talent. However, I agree with you.....more puppy photos!

Go for it Giz! Surprise her w one. I'd get one today but don't want to train during the winter.
Great looking Scotties Ky. They say that people take on the looks of their dogs. :D :D :D
I should be that lucky. :)
Thanks Deb and seemore.
Go for it Giz. I've had a couple of other breeds when I was growing up and was real attahed to them. One thing I've learned though, LABS rule. They are "true brothers of the heart." :)
Here's a missing pic of my fifth that I can't fit in.

I work from home and that was her bed in my office.
Those are awesome, Giz and Deb. They both look like they have mischief in their eyes ;) :)
Deb, I also have a home office and that's right where Steeler would be (unless of course, I went into the house and then she was there). The last couple of years at my old job, I put about 70,000 miles per year on my vehicle driving for work. I'll bet she was with me for about 50,000 of those. She absolutely loves to go driving with me and gets so ticked off at me if I even think about putting her in the back of the Envoy ;D
No other dog will be able to replace Nutmeg but I hope you get another one soon so as to share in the memories like you did with Nutmeg.
I was out plowing my driveway today and I noticed a dog that I haven't seen before out by the barn. I then went down the street about half a mile (got a couple of seasoned citizens that I plow as well as they can't get out and do it anymore) and plowed some more. They are the nicest folks in the world and always try to pay me but I keep telling them that karma wouldn't allow me to take any money. The funny thing is they think that Karma is my wife ;D ;D. They keep telling me to tell that Karma that she can allow me to take money (I always giggle when they say that). Anyways, that dog followed me down the street and just watched me plow the driveways. I never could get that dog to come close enough to really get a good ID on what type but appears to be a mixed breed. Just hope someone didn't drop it off in the country to fend for itself. I'll keep a watch out and see if I can't figure out whose it may be or if it's a stray. Just hate to see stray pets and Steeler always loves to be around other dogs, so if worse comes to worse, just may have to put out a second bowl of food.

Nope, no other dog will replace her. She was my first dog. We are going to get a lab pup in the spring. We went back & forth about getting a second dog about a year ago and never did it. So maybe two pups. I'd like to do a rescue dog but we have three cats and the situation would have to be perfect.

you are so bad!!!
Ok, enough of the doggie pix. - If I can't have one you can't enjoy yours so much! ;D Our Irish Setter of 14 years died 14 years ago, and I haven't been allowed a dog since. :'( Cats are another thing - all strays and rescues. In fact there is one that comes once or twice a day for a meal - has been doing that for about 6 years, and we still haven't been able to get within 3 foot of her (actually a he in all probability). The indoor cat - is 13 years old and was a rescue off what is now my best friend's deck when she was a little over a week old. Had to hand feed her for a few weeks. I'm not really a cat person, but the cats think I am. They have all taken a liking to me and want to park in my lap as soon as I sit down. Irritates my daughter and wife to no end! hehe!

Now, that's a pretty chocolate, FL. How old?
As far as cats go.......we've got two that reside in the house......someone had thrown them in a dumpster when they were kittens so I crawled in the dumpster and fished them out. Now, I'm not really a cat person and neither is the wife. However, we live in the country and my wife HATES mice. So, as my buddy, Consigs, pointed out......the enemy of my enemy is my friend ;D Now, the kids are so attached to them that I couldn't get rid of them if I wanted to (which I don't). It's fun to watch Steeler and the cats interact. Labs love just about everything but the cats, not so much ;D
Beautiful Chocolate there FLB. What is her/his name?
WOW FBL, what a beautiful chocolate. Gorgeous head and face. As you know a great looking chocolate is hard to find. You found one. :) :) :)
That's Ruger, He was 4 in that picture, he is six now.
I had a Yellow lab for 14 years before Ruger. Problem with the chocolate was that we sort of chose house colors based on the yellow. so now the chocolate fur shows bad... lots of vacuuming and blading.
Ruger is a thief. He will break out of the yard and steal stuff from other yards and bring it home. Gloves, shoes....

I need to hear paws thundering through the house! I need to fight for the bedsheets in the middle of the night! I need a wet nose to greet me at the door when I come home from work!
Scott's nose is not wet, so that won't work........ ;)
Nice post, my dogs have always been more than just dogs to me. Buddy is our current pardner, alarm system and waste disposal unit. He had a tough start, abusive first owner and then got shifted around from family to family for a while. He was three when we got him and very cautious around men due to his previous experiences. He is nine now, half blind and spoiled nearly useless but in the end he has watched over my daughter since her birth and performed his duties without flaw. He has long since earned his place in this home. One of the people that used to care for him when we had to travel called him a "love sponge", a very affectionate and loving dog, it's a minor miracle considering his background. He is half lab and have Australian shepherd and just an all around good dog.

Great looking pics!
SS, you can really see the Australian shepherd in his face. Good on you for taking in an abused dog. I always feel like finding the owners of abused dogs and repeating the treatment on them but always stop before I do anything stupid. I had an Australian Shepherd many years back (about 20 years ago). That dog was very protective of me. When he (his name was Brio which is italian for life) was about 2 years old, a german shepherd that lived about 1/2 mile down the country road came up our way and started growling at me, Brio came out of nowhere and next thing I know, he's got that dog by the throat and just wouldn't let go. Eventually, my ex-father in law and I had to throw both of them in the pond before he would let go. I'd never seen the dog like that before or after but when he thought that dog was threatening me, he tore into him. I remember he was as strong as a horse as well. When my ex-wife would try and take him for a walk, he'd eventually just get to the point where he was dragging her.
Thanks for the pics....his face reminded me of some good times with my old buddy, Brio.
sD
My last pal was half Australian shepherd and Collie. He was also a gentle giant. 85 lbs and the kids my wife were babysitting for would try to ride him. When he had enough of that he would just retreat to a quiet place, never a snarl or anything. He was a rescue dog we got and he did have a good 15 years with us.
Mike, great pics. I often wonder what dogs thing when we dress them up. I had a dobie when I was a kid and dressed him in pj's. It was a hoot to watch him walk around.
Nepas, Kiki is one beautiful toy. Her colors are really attracting to look at. I take a glance at her and have to look longer. They just pull me in.
Caribou, now that one's for the birds. I, we raise chickens and guineas also. My daughter had one guinea, when she was young, that use to sit on her shoulder as she walked around.
SS, I'm always partial to the labs and their mixes. I see strong lab in the pics, always dominent genes it seems. :D From blockhead to otter tail. Great pics.
Duck, my dobie did the same time when 2 german shepards ran up on me. He grabbed the bitch by the throught and the male ran away to hide. It was the only time I ever saw him in that mode. He was another gentle giant.
This is a great thread. :) :) :)

Little dogs are the brutes! ;) When we first got married we had a dachsund. Then we got a Dobie who grew to be a good size-107 pounds. Believe me when I say that the Doxie RULED. It was hilarious to watch!
I've got a friend who has 2 labs and his wife has a weiner dog. That little thing will run right along with the labs (though he needs to watch out for speed bumps ;)) and when he gets mad at them, he jumps up and kind of kicks them in the face. It's funnier than heck. He'll even go in the water when we're working with the dogs on water retrieves. He goes a lot slower and every now and then, one of the labs will nudge him back to shore. He sure is funny to watch!
Duck you should make the little fella a rabbit dog.
Naw, got plenty of friends who have beagles and I'd much rather hunt rabbits with beagles than the little whine of the wiener dog. They sure are cute little buggers, though.
Ok Here's my addition to the Pet Pics. It's of our new Jack-Russel/Rat Terrior puppy "Roxie" and our cat "C-A-T". They are just playing and since Roxie's arrival the cat has lost 3 lbs. Wonder why? They are the best of friends. Sorry its alittle dark at first but it lightens up.

Roxie has growd up abit. Cat's head now fits and is usually in her mouth during their play time.
Thanks for the nice comments, Duck, HCT and SS! There is a little more to Buddy's story. I was out giving him some exercise out in the muskeg one day and another guy happened to be out there walking around. He said that he used to have a dog that looked just like Buddy and his name was Buddy also. It was his first abusive owner. Toughest moment of my life, I have no use for people who abuse animals. I had to turn and leave quickly, didn't settle down for hours.
You are right Duck, Buddy mostly looks like a lab but has a little more delicate head inherited from his mother, a blue Australian Shepherd. Buddy has that nice mellow Lab attitude with the playfullness and clever way of approaching things that he got from mom. It's a good mix.
SS, gentle giant is a good description. Buddy is 95 pounds of hair and tail but doesn't have a mean bone in his body. I really don't think he would bite even to protect us, it just isn't in him. He puts himself between my daughter and any perceived danger and I know that anything coming at her would have to take Buddy first. Having said that she has pushed him around from the time she was tiny and he pretends to not like it but if she makes a move or a squeak he is there.
HCT, Buddy definitely has the Lab body and general confirmation. You can't see it well in these pictures but he has a Lab type body with some very nice blue/grey markings throughout his coat. Just a darn good looking dog. His one drawback is he sheds like a Lab, manufactures his weight in loose hair every day. Wish I could discover his secret, I lose it almost as quickly as him but it doesn't come back!
Great pictures and stories everyone!

I lost it quickly, too, SS. Fortunately, my back caught it. I can do one heck of a combover with my back hair though :o ;D

I just start at the ears and comb up! ;)
You know that grass doesn't grow on a playground, right? ;D I just tell the kids that it's a solar panel for a secks machine ;D
Now, more dog pics! I love seeing the pics of the beloved pets!
Stillsmokin', Buddy is a beautiful dog! 10.5, I love the video! That cat has to be three times the size of that little dog! I love it!

Larry more like Street Stray found outside of the school in the winter as a kitten 5 years ago. She is only about 8-10lbs in the video. Roxie was just that small. But she never backed down even when C-A-T sat on her. That is the cats name spell cat.
10.5, too funny.
StillSmoking, when I look at my rescues, I still loose it. At least they're home, safe with me.
IKnowWood, beautiful. Yeah that arthritis is a heartbreaker. One of mine has a touch of it, right now I'm just keeping an eye on it. Great faces on both, the black girl's is beautiful, reminds me of my Zorro. No greater love than that of an older lab. ;) :)
HCT, the black lab is a beauty. We love her. She has learned how to suck up real good she has this innocent look then picks up her paw and taps my leg. We knew from when we got her at 8 weeks she would have problems. Vet told us then to take her bad to the breeder, we could not. We knew how that would end and could not part with her. Vet did help her back then by telling us to mix 50% puppy food with 50% adult food and use that mix to feed her. It would slow her growth and help the joints fit the body better and not get to big. Much better for her bones to grow in. She is a wonderful friend. Mostly grey these days than black.
IKnowWood, I had problems with my first, Troubles, he had seizures all night long the first day he was home. He suggested contacting the breeder also. The breeder said he would take him back but not pay the vet bills. Sure, I would have given him back only to be put down. Luckily there hasn't been any problems since, 10yrs. Knock on wood. No pun intended. :D :D :D

Great video, 10.5! I wouldn't let the other pups see that........Roxie would be tormented for being beat up by a cat ;D Now, if it was a siamese cat, I could understand......those things are mean! I once watched a small dog chase a siamese around a house when I was growing up......when they came back around the other side, the cat was chasing the dog. Now, Siamese cats scare the poop outta me :o
I love that section where C-A-T just sits on the pup. Owned!

A & 8's, nice pic, great looking dog. :)
Pretty dog, Aces...he must have one heck of a nose!
Been working on my lab with pheasants. she's got the flushing down pretty good but not so much on the pointing yet. Fortunately, she stays pretty close so we're able to shoot when she does get on to one.

A & 8's, great picture and a beautiful dog! I am a big fan of springers and shorthairs, looks like you got the pick of the litter! Brings back memories of my most recent Springer. The Springers I have had have been great family and hunting dogs.
Thanks for the kind comments. Ben is a great dog and definitely part of the family.
A & 8's: Ben is one beautiful dog! Beautiful area where you live, too.
Just finished my whelping box for Steeler last night. I posted the pics of the build on my blog, which can be seen here:

Thanks, Mike. It actually came out looking better than my talents had a right to do. It should work perfectly and with a couple of guys helping will be easy to move outside when the weather warms up.
I enjoy doing the blog as it's pretty therapeutic for me.
Very cool Marc!
I'm enjoying your blog.
Why, thank you very kindly, Deb!
SD, I enjoyed your blog so much I decided to set one up, too.
But I don't have anything on it yet. :D
My hubbie built a whelping box many years ago for our Great Dane Lacey.
It brought back such good memories to see your project.
Having your dog have puppies is often a close second to having your own children being born as far as I am concerned! :)

Some folks have asked for some updated photos of Steeler. She's awfully tired lately so sleeps more and more. I also included a pic of one of her brag walls of ribbons she's won from UKC and AKC trials. I'm a shameless papa!

Do you guys ever sit there and watch the puppies move?
Now that's family entertainment :)
Carolyn
Yea, we were doing that last night. The kids are really excited about the big event. They're counting down the days until it happens and asked me if Steeler could wait until after school to have the pups. I told them I'd give her their request but no guarantees ;D
Cute pictures Marc!
I hope Steeler waits for the kids to be home. That would be really cool for them.
Good girl Steeler, just relax, it'll all be over soon.
Love the ribbons.
Thinking about ya.
;) :)
The Boys
Nice pics SD.
Great picture, SD! The kids will soon be aunties and uncles! You will be dear old GrandDad!
I can't wait to see pictures of the newborns!!!
Well, I just made the garage all toasty for Steeler. Whne I bought the house, the garage was uninsulated, however, it had a furnace in it. It's a nice big two story garage. So, I finished the downstairs portion (we only use the upstairs for storage). The previous owner, however, did not put a return duct in the furnace, so I would blow through a 100 gallon tank of propane in about 5 days with really cold weather. So, tonight, I ran a return duct from the furnace down to the downstairs portion of the garage. It's running like a champ and I can keep it nice and toasty in there for her. Normally, she stays in the house with us, but during the night, I keep her in the whelping box just in case she should decide to throw those pups in the middle of the night. If she were to do it in the middle of the living room floor, well, let's just say Momma Duck would be looking for a new drake ;D Never done any HVAC work before, but I may have to add this to my resume.
Steeler sure looks like she's ready to go at any time. It seems like she's getting bigger by the minute and her teets are getting fuller and fuller. The kids made the comment that they look like Mom's and man, was Momma angry :D They did say that Mom's don't sag as much, so there was some good in the statement. Well, if I can make it through being unemployed and that statement by the kids, I figure I'm good to go!
I'll post pics as soon as she spits them out.

I think something is getting ready to happen. When I went to let her out this morning, she usually does her business and then heads straight for the door for the house. Today, she went staright back for the door to the garage, which is where her whelping box is as if to tell me she needed to be in there. I'm probably reading way more into it but I just get the feeling we'll be there soon!
I think your right, I think she's ready to go, too.
Have you been taking her temperature? I forgot if it's a drop or spike your looking for but it indicates about 24 hours to go.
My dog had puppies a long, long time ago, she started seeking the whelping box the last day or two.
Good luck!
Carolyn
Thanks Carolyn! Haven't taken her temp....just gonna wait and let Mother Nature take her course. I'll got out and check on her every hour and will update as soon as it happens. I got to thinking that if I'm this giddy with pups, what the hell will I be like when my kids have kids? I'm gonna be a mess! :o
Steeler had her first one at about noon today. I'll post all the pics to my blog as the pups come out. Pics of the first one and following can be found here:

Woohoooooooooo! This is fun! Not sure it's as much fun for Steeler, but it's fun for me!
Congratulations Steeler!!!!!!!!!
Momma's doing great.......but she sure is taking her time getting these pups out. I'd like it to be lickety split but I guess it can sometimes be an hour or two between pups. YIKES!
Go to school & dismiss the kids between pups!
STEELER, STEELER, STEELER, STEELER, STEELER, you rock girl :D
Update: We now have three! One black and 2 yellow! Pics are on my blog, which can be accessed in my signature line! Momma's doing great!
Wow!! How exciting!
How many girls and boys so far?
I've been at work watching this.
It took me a while to find out what my password was so I could say something since I'm not on my own computer.
Hang in there grandpa!
Carolyn
2 more blacks have been born for 5 total so far. 3 Black, 2 Yellow. Pics updated on blog.
Thanks! I'm getting worn out already! ;D :o
Congratulations Steeler!! 5 and still counting. Would someone please revive the Duck as I am confident he has passed out by now.
Nothing cuter than puppies Marc.

Outstanding Steeler!
Keep up the reports Grampa Marc! ;)
Mike
Things seem to have stalled at 5......she may be done or maybe she's just taking a break. Not sure either way but I need a drink and I need one quickly! Gonna have to break out one of the beers that I have resrved for cooking!
Well, we're now at 6. 3 Black and 3 Yellow. I think there may be one or two more but not sure. I think a chocolate female would finish things off nicely.
Well, we're now up to 9 total. 5 black and 4 yellow. Not sure if it's over yet or not but Steeler has more of a relaxed look on her face, so maybe she's done. 9 would be plenty! Pics to follow once I'm done with my nap. ;D
Wow 9! That's a good-sized litter!
Good job Steeler...and Grandpa Duck!
You made a great midwife! ;)
Carolyn
Thanks Carolyn.......I'm very tired. It's been a long and fun day........I can only imagine how Steeler feels. The fun thing was that the kids got home about 4:45 pm. I met them outside and told them that I needed some help in the garage before they went into the house and surprised them with the pups! Well, then Steeler surprised me with two more (this was when I thought we had 6) and just as the kids were looking at the two that had just been born before we got there, out plops number 9! My son looks up at me and says, 'I did not need to see that!" So, I giggled like a schoolgirl. I was thinking we'd have 7 but 9 has exceeded my expectations......who knows when I go back in 30 minutes, I might have 10 or 11. I always knew Steeler was an overachiever ;D
I'm at a loss for names though.......I was gonna name them after the 6 Steeler Super Bowl victories when I thought there might only be 6. The Steelers better start winning some more ;D
This is totally kool!!!! :)
Congrats SD!
Can't wait to see some pics!
C
I think Steeler ought to be up for another ribbon! ;)
I agree nickld. She handled it much better than I did. Ought to be interesting feeding 9 mouths with 8 teets, but I'm sure she'll take care of business.
I've got photos posted on my blog, but here are some as well.
This was the first one on the scene. I've nicknamed this one Hickory
(http://i322.photobucket.com/albums/nn436/msovik/IMG_0012-2.jpg)
Steeler had neatly placed the pups already born under the heat lamp while she went to business giving birth to the others. There's Hickory, Mesquite, Oak and Apple in this pic
(http://i322.photobucket.com/albums/nn436/msovik/IMG_0017-1.jpg)

And here's my cats who couldn't figure what all the hoopla was about. Ashley and then Tiger.

How cute, puppy pucks!
I know it might sound silly, but doesn't having puppies stir up the same feelings you had as a kid on Christmas morning?
It's like you know they're coming but it's not real until they arrive.
I'm so excited for your family, what a great experience for the kids....and the cats :D
Carolyn
The puppies are precious, Gramps!!!
Poor Steeler - she deserves a blue ribbon for giving birth to 9 of them!
It is like Christmas Morning, Deb. It's obviously not the same as when my kids will have kids but it's as close as it gets. You know, Steeler has been right by my side these last 4 years. She and I have put in some long hard hours training and hunting and she never ever has come to the center of the boxing ring (so to speak) when the bell has been rung. I guess it's kind of hard to explain to those who haven't gone through it or had pets, but it was really cool to be a part of it.
The most amazing thing to me was in watching Mother Nature take over. I got to thinking about how the pup would come out and instinctively, Steeler would know to get that membrane of of the pup. I just wondered how she knew. It wasn't like I'd spent the last 4 years training her how to do that and we never sat down and watched a DVD........she just knew how to do it and that it needed to be done. Sometimes we, as humans, have to put together a consortium of geniuses together to figure out how to screw in a light bulb. I guess it just gives you a greater appreciation of nature and the animal kingdom.
Sweet sweet sweet! Congratulations Steeler and Marc.
Larry, Jan, Sebastian and Sasha.
Giggles....first of all...congrats on the amazing thing you have witnessed....Second...I had an opportunity when I was like 8 to see the same thing...instinct....and being scared if it were the right thing...my parents wanted to help somehow....but....ya can't...She knows what she's doing...it's scary and exciting for those who have had the opportunity to watch...
Puppies are an amazing blessing...
P U P P I E S !!!
Congrats SD!
I've only every been on the stud end of those transactions. Never had a female dog. Bred my Yellow with a black and got one DOZEN black puppies.
Where's the Chocolate ?
I guess everything has quited down for Steeler, hopefully, she got a little rest but that's doubtful. It's great to see that she had a easy delivery and she is doing a great job as a new momma. Now the real fun begins. ;) :D Good thoughts are out for the both of you.

Where's the Chocolate ?
I kept waiting for one to pop out........even after 9 and she was done, I took a flashlight and shined it up there, but there weren't any ;D I had a buddy that was looking for a chocolate female but it wasn't to be. I was happy to see some yellow myself. Steeler was one of 14 from a chocolate mother and all 14 were black!

I bet you did shine that flashlight on her. :D :D :D
God bless, Marc, Steeler.
Kind of a sad way to start the day but the runt of the litter didn't make it through the night. Steeler was hiding the little guy and when I checked on them, found the little one not moving and unresponsive. I guess this is all part of the circle of life as well, but not really the fun part.
:'(
Damn, Marc, I felt like I just got hit in the stomach. I was pulling for him. :(
The way I look at it, perhaps Mother Nature knew ahead of time and figured it would be better to take the little guy now rather than have someone get really attached to him and have it hurt much more later. Everything happens for a reason..we don't always know why but then, why should we have to know why?
The other 8 are doing real well. They're feeding and sleeping. Poor Steeler........can't even get her to come out of her box to eat or drink. I'll go back in an hour and pull the pups off if she doesn't want to come out herself. Momma's gotta take care of herself to take care of the kids.
So sorry to hear about the little runt.
You're right, it makes it easier to lose him now.
There was a reason he didn't develop has big as the others.
But it doesn't make it any easier on your heart.
Carolyn
Marc,
I'm sorry to hear about the runt not making it through but as you said, circle of life. Congrats on the other 8 being healthy.
All the best.
KyNola
Ah, Marc, we are so sorry.
Yes, it's the cycle of life, but sometimes the cycle of life just plain old sucks.
Here's to Mommy and the other eight little ones.
You hang in there too, GrandDad.

Thanks, J&S.
Here's a couple more pics.
The first is with two that were still at the watering hole and the other 6 had had their fill and were taking in the sun on the beach. They sure are cute little buggers even with their eyes closed. :D

congrats sd,
i wish i were closer i sure could use one of those female yeller pups!!!
Yea, you'd have to get in a long line........I get the first yellow female. Truth be told, I haven't even taken the time to see how many males and females I have yet. Probably do that the next time I go out there. That Steeler is one dedicated mama. She hasn't even bothered to get up to eat or drink. So, I've been holding her water and food dish and she's eating out of my hands. God bless her!
you are one great grandpa!

I second that!
Finally got Steeler to get out of that whelping box for just a bit. Figured out I have 6 males and 2 females. All of the black labs are males and 2 of the yellows are males as well. The wife says she wants another female so I guess I'm going to have to come up with a name for the yellow female. I'm thinking Polly (which is short for Troy Polamalu) but the wife isn't crazy about that name yet. At least it will be fitting to have a black and a gold dog in my household ;D

LOL! I wanted to name her Smoker but Momma has said no to that. I may have to give Momma the boot and name the pup whatever I want.
How bout Bisquette? :D
Carolyn
I'm thinking Dakota in honor of where my wife is from and I (believe it or not) love North Dakota. Just not sure yet....may wait and see what kind of personality she has when she gets a little older
Marc,
You could always keep it simple and just name her Dee-O-Gee. Simple name that rolls off the tongue, yet sounds mysterious and foreign. Also helps the kids spell.
Well, that would be simple enough, but the kids are 8 and 10. If they can't spell a name like Dakota by now, I need to give up the dogs and focus more on the kids ;D Although, I do like that and could call her Dee for short. Not sure how my duaghter would like that as her name is Kennadee and we call her Dee all the time.
I'd have to name one of them Giggles...ya know just for...well ya know!!! ;D
I thought about Giggles but my wife was afraid that would lead to beatings when she went to obedience school ;D
My wife wants the name Lulu and call her Lu for short. I just couldn't imagine myself in a duck blind with all my tough friends and me yelling "Back, Lulu" or "heel, Lulu". Man, my wife just doesn't get me at all! She said why don't I just name it Dumbarse and I told her I reserved that name for my wife. OK, that didn't go over very well.
I just don't think my wife should have a say in the name. I'm the one that's gonna be housebreaking her (the lab, not my wife), I'm gonna be the one giving it obedience training and retriever training. I just gotta believe that the honor of naming her should go to the one that's gonna be raising her.
I really think I might name her "Tater" and then when she has kids, they'd be Tater Tots.
Marc, we are kind of partial to Dakota. That was our Dobie's name. :) If you named her Tater, I automatically think of Ron "tater salad" White.
Scott and June
Ya know Duck, I know yer just kidding around, but I kind of like "Tater" for a name.
Really, I wasn't kidding around. It's either gonna be Tater or Dakota. I think Ron White is one funny SOB, so the name Tater always makes me smile.......however, Sluggo is out of the question, I think.
I think Tater is great....are you saying you couldn't go hunting with a dog named Giggles??? :D :D :D I can just hear your hunting buddies comments when you introduce Giggles!!! :D :D :D
Go with Tater dude...the tater tot thing works!!! ;D
Been real busy and haven't been on the board for a few days. Congrats Mark. Nice looking litter there. My wife was ready to jump on a plane a few days ago before they were born. Guess I'll not show her the pup pics or she will have to claw through that long line you have. :D
Thanks Q and Giz. Tater it's gonna be.
They sure are getting stronger every day and Momma is doing great as well. It's off to the vets today to have their dew claws removed. Momma is not going to like that one bit but it's best for the pups and a lot easier to do it now rather than later.
Hey Marc a word of advice...don't freak out if the scabs fall off early where the dew claws used to be.
I had my pups dew claws removed once and momma licked the scabs off a couple days after the were removed on a few of the pups.
And seeing that joint where the cut was made just sitting there was a little shocking but they scab back up again and heal just fine.
Glad to hear things are going well and I like the name Tator a lot!
Carolyn
Thanks Carolyn..........I'll try to remember that about the dew claw. I have a tendancy to worry about things involving my dogs way too much. I've gotten more than enough confirmation that the yellow female will be named Tater. Just not sure which of the two females it will be.......gonna wait a little bit before I make that determination.
Yep... Sounds like ya caught the Tater SD!!! Gotta be a proud papa right about now. ;D
Ah, make it easy on yourself: just keep BOTH females, and name them Tater 1 and Tater 2!!!!
Good luck trying to justify keeping BOTH of them!!! ;)
Oh, I could justify keeping both of them pretty easily......I just don't think the divorce judge would buy the justification ;D
Oh come on Candy Giggle Man...sell it dude...JUST...DO....IT.... :D :D :D
Ahhhhhh, you're gonna push me right into that divorce court, aren't you? ;D ;D
Normally, I wouldn't think twice about it, but I'm going to have a lot of work to do with the new pup and I really want to spend a lot of time with Steeler this summer working on trying to get some more stuff done with her. She's probably going to need a refresher course on hand signals and she needed just a bit more work on the double blind retrieves through water when we stopped training for hunting season. That's gonna take a lot of time and quite frankly, I don't like training two dogs at one time, so I'd have my hands more than full with just Steeler and Tater. If all goes well, Tater will be hunting alongside Steeler this fall.
I took a short video of the pups and posted it on my blog if anyone would be interested in see it.
http://lacosasmokestra.blogspot.com/
Really cute little boogers....good for you both!!! Nothing like puppies in the house!!! ;D
Steeler is not happy with me today. She knows it was me who took the pups to the vet and caused the pain. She watches me very closely with the pups right now to make sure I won' do anything else to them.
Believe it or not, we're also considering adopting two 3 year old female labs. There is a couple I know (like many here in Northern Indiana) who are losing their home and have two labs and can't take them with them to where they have to move to. They want to keep the girls together and cannot find a home right now. Mrs. Duck and I simply can't afford to keep them either but they're beautiful labs, so I'm trying to convince the wife that maybe we can keep them until this family gets back on their feet and then we could give them back to them. This crappy economy is ruining a lot of things around here. Hopefully, it will turn around soon or the Duck family could be the next in line with these people. These labs aren't hunting labs, they're house dogs and the wife is not crazy with the idea of having us, 2 kids, 2 cats and 4 dogs in the house. I swear when I win the lottery I'm going to build a 2000 sf house just to house labs in (they'll have their own bedrooms as well as adjoining bathrooms). It's bad enough when the economic times hit us.......but for the love of God, leave the labs alone! ;D
Just watched your video SD those are some cute little pups you have there
I think your right the tan pups do look a little fatter.
My wife got a good laugh at the one would not give up trying to eat
Brian
SD, me and Ann would gladly cut back on things up here just to help pay room and board for the labs. She's been working with the Shepard rescue and we think we might get a new family member sooner than expected. I'd work 7 days a week for a good home for them... Opps I'm doing that now :D ;) Anyhow tell mom we would be glad to help out. ;D
Marc,
Since you would be technically providing a foster home for these 2 labs, would the local shelter or rescue group possibly help you out with food?
Maybe even hit the local grocery store, feed store or pet stores for discounted torn bags.
Just a thought. :)
ps I loved seeing the pups on video!
Carolyn
Marc;
This is becoming a nationwide problem, so I'm sure there are organizations out there to help. Do a search on "Foreclosure Pets", you will get a lot of hits.
Marc, Glad to hear the pups are all okay. Steeler will get over it, she knows that you would never cause any harm. She's a lab, need I say more. ;)
There are alot of 'soup kitchens' & 'food banks' for dogs cropping up. Ask around at the vets and shelters. Get a copy of the "Animal Magazine", at the vets, they're free. I think that's the name, anyway it's a newspaper with lots of info. My daughter is in the process of getting more info on starting one in my area.
Do what you can to rescue those 2 girls, they're labs and labs bring good karma. :) Boy that sounds silly, but it's true. You'll never regret it. You already know that. ;)
Actually, I think my buddy who has the dog that sired the pups is going to take them in with the caveat that anytime they get back on their feet, the couple can have them back. My buddy is single and has a whole house the dogs can run through. Plus, it's an added bonus that he doesn't have to "check" with anyone else first. I'll watch the dogs whenever he needs to go out of town, so I think these are being taken care of for now. I have a bad feeling these may be one of many. Sad situation, really.

Agreed! I was wading (fly fishing) the river Sat. afternoon and just after starting the first casts, something bumped into my leg - scared the snot outta me - thought some big gator was gonna get me! Ended up it was a rather large black lab that came in to greet me and he was silent - I did not hear him come up behind me. Patted him on the head and scratched his ears a little and he went off on his merry way. Coming off the river, there he was again, a good looking adult black male lab in good condition, and three smaller and less well fed black labs (one had a hurt leg) that were running around the parking lot. Nobody had ever seen them before - no collars or tags - and this was sorta in the sticks. We all talked about what to do and one of the guys had a tonneau cover on the bed of his truck and he decided to take them back into Nashville and the rescue people. I would have loved to have had him - he was a beautiful dog. I can't believe someone would dump all those beautiful dogs. That is someone I wouldn't mind hurting!

Speaking of puppies, we just added a new member to our pack. 14 month old mastiff his name is chief, and yes he likes everything smoked with mesquite! :D
(http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm56/cjgbrad/IM002166.jpg)
You can see our dobie is so impressed with her little brother! ;D
(http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm56/cjgbrad/IM002167.jpg)

Man, that's a big dog, WTS. You'd better be careful......if you don't feed him enough mesquite-smoked brisket, he's liable to eat you! ;D

Boy, That's a whole lot of love. ;)
Looks like Chief makes a toasty foot stool! :D
What's Miss dobie's name?

That would be waggles!
C
That is one big dog...looks like a gentle giant....always nice to have one of them around!!! Especially the bark!!! :)
Hmmm.... Just a bit past the lap dog stage I'd say but maybe the whole couch perhaps. What a cutie!!!
HCT, that mastiff is adorable! Waggles looks she is quite content to be the "big sister". Looking at her makes me want another Doberman.
Caney, I could not agree with you more about those abandoned Labs. What is wrong with people?
I think the housing crisis has made people make decisions they never would have thought possible in their lives...the stock market as well...I guess if you love your dogs...you'd never ever drop them somewhere (which I would suspect in this case). I would eat out of a McDonald's dumpster before I/we would leave our dogs...sad really...good news is...IT CAN REALLY...ONLY GET BETTER....
Lq, it is unfortunate but the rescue shelters are swelling because of the amount of people that are loosing their homes. They are forced into rentals that do not want pets. The ones that tear my heart out are the mixed breeds that go to the animal shelter and do not get adopted. The rescue shelters for pure breed's are for now doing ok out here.
WTS. sorry mrs. meet you .

Having a little scare this weekend. The smallest pup left seems to be having some problems. I noticed it seemed he was having a hard time breathing last night so I swept out all of the pine bedding from the whelping box. He was crying something fierce last night and didn't think he'd make it through the night to be honest. I kept trying to get him to take Steeler's teet because he's now about half the size of the other pups but he wouldn't do it.
I stayed up with him until about 2 am watching and wondering if there was anything else I could do for him until I realized this is just nature's way. Got back up at 5 am figuring he'd be gone by the time I checked on him and he's still kicking. He isn't whining at all like he was last night and seems more normal.
Not sure if he'll make it or not, but I'm still pulling for him.
Marc,
I hope the the poor little guy is going to be okay. It must be tough just watching and waiting. Sending good thoughts his way (and yours - get some sleep today).
Deb
Thanks Deb. The hardest part is not being able to do anything........but Steeler knows what's best and whatever happens will happen........that's nature's way I guess. I don't like it but that's the way it's been working for a long time now.
Damn... Susan is crying over these last postings... my eyes are not to dry either.
God Speed,
Mr. & Mrs. Olds
Well, unfortunately, the little guy didn't make it through. I just went and checked on him about 10 minutes ago and he was gone. It sure isn't easy even though I didn't get too attached to him but I sure liked that little guys spunk. He was about half the size of the others but would always just shove himself in there to get some milk when he needed it. The others seem to be doing fine and Steeler was none too happy with me taking that little one out of the enclosure. It may be Mother Nature's way but it sure doesn't make it any easier :'(
Hi Marc
I know how your feeling Ive been down that road before also
its not an easy thing.
The little guy has gone to a better place.
You take care and you have my sympathies on your loss

Here is the new member to the Giz house hold. Mrs Giz couldn't resist. She went to a Dog Festival, which is an event to place dogs from shelters. The Mrs found that most of them had so many strings attached that it made you wonder if these places were really trying to get the dogs into homes. Does someone really need to be home all day long for a dog to have a happy life?
She found this one on the way out the door. Family had a litter of 12 and couldn't keep them. It is a boxer sharpei mix but should be a good companion.
Other than a little whining, it has been mostly sleeping as you can see. :)
He's a cutie Giz. Good luck and good karma for rescuing him.
I agree with you about the rescues. My daughter does some fostering and the rules they have makes you wonder, not to mention the costs. Makes you think that it's easier and cheaper to buy a pedigree pup.
Very cute Giz.
I know what you mean about the strings, we are starting to look for a dog and have gone back & forth between a rescue dog and buying a lab. Some of the applications for the rescues are pretty intense.
Nepas - Kiki is very cute.
Nepas, It's good to see Kiki has a new do!
Gizmo, congrats on your new puppy!
Carolyn
Nepas - Nice photoshopping the hair off the dog...
Gizmo - If I left my shoes that close to the puppy they would get shredded!
Nepas, Kiki is a CUTIE.
Giz, that little bundle is going to RULE your house, shortly. ;)
NePas....puppie cuts rule!!! With our breed...(like Kikki) it's the only way to go... :)
Giz...that is one cute poopie pup!!! (Sorry, I'm a girl) ;D

Hey Duck,
Mom and the kids are looking good.
Having the one puppy is a handful enough not to mention what you are going to be going through even though I have been there with a litter of Springers back in the 80s.
The new pup was O.K. laying next to the shoe but had to keep and eagle eye as puppies do what puppies do and that is CHEW. :-\
Very cool SD and Giz. We have been dogless for about 6 years now and definitely something missing.
I've updated my blog with a new video of the pups who are now 2.5 weeks old. They are much bigger than the last time.
http://lacosasmokestra.blogspot.com/
Duck,
They are wicked cute. :)
Hey Bud,
It's a good thing I don't live nearby. There would be a pup missing in another 6 weeks. ;)
Glad to hear the finger is healing up. At least Steeler and the pups may be catching a break from ya. :D :D
Just viewed the video. Great blocky heads on them. They all look to be strong. Nice job Marc.
Marc,
They are so cute! And growing huge, too.

Great pics! I hear you on the pipes thing. The beauty of this is that this will really be like being a grandparent. I get to give them away (well, except for Tater) ;D
Tater's got a lot of spunk in her, so I'm sure she will start out quite vocal. I will have a fight on my hands training this one, I think ;) :)

Nice pic in deed smokinr,
daughter's lab loved the same toy, so much, it don't quack any more. Kind of missing a little piece of the beak as well.
Smokinrookie,
You need to put that picture on your signature line!
Bailey's picture is precious!
Carolyn
carolyn,
i have been thinkin' i need to change the pic. but i cant till after the 17th of this month.
You can keep the avatar and add Bailey to the bottom of your post along with you signature phrase!
You can have both!

Hey Up in smoke!
Just love seeing your pups on your post!
Like your new name, too.
Carolyn
thanks carolyn,
and thanks for info on getting them there.
i really like seeing all of the dogs, this is a really great thread.
All these great doggie pics makes me want to have a dog again!
I had nothing but Great Danes for 20years and lost my last one 3 years ago.
Carolyn
Carolyn,
bailey is the only one i have now.
i lost yeller last march to cancer, she was 13. ironically enough it was march 17Th which i noticed was a record day for members being online at once.
i have always wanted a great Dane but i think i am going to wait until i retire before i get another dog.
that way i will have the time needed to spend with them.
do Danes come with saddles or do you have to get that separate? :)
Those Danes are one beautiful dog. I almost rescued one before the Labs entered my life. Just grand. :)
Hey All,
Thought that I'd share our little bundle of mischief with you, if I can figure out how to get this darned Photobucket thing to work...,(http://i380.photobucket.com/albums/oo245/josbocc/TheBuppy007.jpg)
That was our baby at about 2 months, here is Sage now...,(http://i380.photobucket.com/albums/oo245/josbocc/P1010008.jpg)
She can be as cute as the day is long, but put a tennis ball in front of her, and you had better have eaten your wheaties that morning. By the way, she loves Habs Canadian Bacon, and just about anything else that Dad pulls out of the smoker.
Jeff
Jeff,
what a beauty.
Hey Jeff, thanks for sharing Sage. ;) :)
Up in Smoke and HCT,
Thanks,
Momma will be very happy to hear that her little girl is winning more hearts. Duck, best of luck with the pups. Our daughter, and sister-in-law both have Labs, Bubba and Bailey are both Chocolates, and are just a couple months older than Sage. It's quite a circus when we get the three of them together. The labs are stronger..., but the Sager is faster!!!
Reading this whole thread has been a reminder that todays issues are not really all that important. I've been moved to tears more than once sharing all of your stories, and remembering my former friends. This forum is not just a place to share recipes or ideas..., it's a place to come to when you need some cheering up.
Thanks to everyone that has shared an experience about their "Best Friend."

You know as much as I loved the breed it's hard to recommend them because they were designed to break your heart.
Their average life span is about 7 years. Really! And remember that is an average, anywhere between 5-10 is "normal'
I lost them as young as 6 and as old as 9. And they are the worst breed for bloat, too.
I feel kind of silly posting a pic of a deceased dog but here was one of my Danes, Oobie:

Carolyn
Carolyn,
Look at those jowels..., what a beautiful pup. We can rest easy knowing that they imparted a special part of themselves on us that we will never forget.
If you can find it in your heart, don't deprive yourself, and don't deprive a much deserving friend. I know from experience that owning a pet, and working can leave you with limited time. I gave away a beautiful Golden Retriever about 10 years ago because it was just me and him, and I was working 10 -12 hours a day. In retrospect, I would have kept him and just gave him that much more attention when I got home.
I hope you find another companion that will fill you life with Joy.
Jeff
Thanks Jeff,
It's so different for me now that I have a 6 year old daughter. I had most my dogs before I had her so I didn't have to explain to her why a dog died after only 6 or 8 years.
I'm going to probably get a dog like you have or other sporting dog next time around.
I love Goldens and Labs!
Carolyn
Carolyn,
6 year old daughters and Golden Retrievers go really well together. Reminds me a little bit of a Pepsi commercial that was done about 20 years ago..., remember that one?
Jeff
this is really neat if you haven't seen it...
go to you tube and in the search bar type in carolyn scott and rookie.
besides the names sounding familiar this lady has a dancing golden retriever,
they dance to a song from grease....really cool.
Oh my goodness! What a dog! Thanks for sharing that, I'm gonna pass that one along to all the dog lovers I know!
And Jeff you are so correct Goldens and kids do go together.
One of my friends have a pair and my daughter just loves them.
They are such a wonderful breed when it comes to temperment and that face!

In the meantime, we love all the pictures/stories about everyone's dogs, cats, chickens.............
Keep those pictures and stories coming!!!
Jeff, Sage is a beauty. I have a cat named Sage, she thinks she is a dog. She plays fetch, she will fetch for an hour if you will throw for her. She would probably give your Sage a run for her money.
Carolyn, Obie is a beauty also. Don't feel silly, I also have my Nutmeg posted in this thread.
We are working on getting a pup. We have decided to get a yellow lab. My work schedule is crazy for another month so we can't get one until things slow down but are doing all the leg work. We went to Petco yesterday and went puppy supply shopping. My husband went to the toy aisle first ;D
Well, the pups are a couple days over three weeks old and they're really starting to develop physically and mentally. They're now sitting on their own, running about a little and as pack animals go, trying to develop their status within the pack. It's pretty funny watching them wrestle and trying to establish their dominance. They even try to growl but it's hard to take it seriously when it's so high pitched. But, when it's time to rest, it's time to rest and they're all in the big dog pile.

Thanks Deb!
How exciting! Hope we'll see your puppy pics soon, too!
Marc,
I think you're a "puppy enabler"! Your adorable pups are all making us all want puppies!

It's gotta be a form of brain washing!
See, he put yet another pic of those adorable little pups, all lined up like little yellow and black furry sausages!
If I wasn't sweating this slow economy I would have went out and got me a puppy today!

Slow economy? ??? ???

Nice update Duck.
The pups have reached one month of age today. So, the process of weaning them off of Momma begins today. They also received the anti-worming medication and will get their first shots in two weeks. Do you think they got the hang of it pretty quick?

I don't know there Duck. Might just take alittle longer for them to get the hang of it. Either that or they need a bigger bowl with more in it. Not enough room at the Bar.
;D ;D ;D
Yea, I thought it would be easy to keep half of them separated and feed half at one time and the other half at another time. Ummmmm, not so easy ;D Now, I go out with two pie plates. Start the puppy food in a can in two days (mixed in with the milk) and slowly make their way to dry food over the course of the week.
Duck, they are so darned cute!!!! Cuddly little things!
They are so cute!!!!
I WANT ONE......Puppies are a God's gift to everyone...they are cute and cuddley and want nothing from you but to feed them and put them to sleep in a comfy place...Sorry everyone...I love dogs...puppies or not...does Fed Ex ship puppies? ;D

So, is anyone going go out to get a puppy this weekend as a result of Marc's brainwashing?
;)
I can't I have 17 chicken eggs due to hatch in my incubator on Tues.
For now with the recession going on I have to stick to pets that I can eat...just in case things get worse.

"For now with the recession going on I have to stick to pets that I can eat...just in case things get worse."
Good planning Carolyn, you know they aren't going to get any better any time soon.
No kidding!
My hubbie is an artist and business has been on such a decline since the beginning of 2008.
Art is kind of the canary in the coal mine.
When the news was announcing last January that the recession started early last year we said "no kidding!"
But I will have a dog when this storm passes and my daughter isn't begging for a dog right now.
When I had to put my last dog down a few years back, she and my hubbie waited outside the vet office while I stayed with our dog to the end.
When I came out all sad and teary she looks up at me and said "Does this mean we can get a Basset Hound now?"
She was only 3 and it was so funny I couldn't help laughing and crying at the same time!

Not looking but who knows what lab will need help in the immediate or near future.
Carolyn, I've been putting a little bit away each week. Dryed beans, rice, canned goods, dehydrated foods. Vacuum seal it and store it. Got to build the Ark. ;) :D :D
i really would like a companion for bailey but just can't talk myself into it right now.

I'll let you all in on a little secret. Deb and I have been in negotiations for quite some time with regards to the puppies. She has wanted one and was looking for just the right pup to fill her and her family's needs. She really wanted a yellow female and I was very sad that we only had two yellow females in the litter and she was third on the list for a yellow female. Well, some things got worked out and I've decided that I was going to go with a big yellow male (henceforth known as Bubba). It is with great pleasure that I introduce to this great forum the newest member of Deb's family: Saffron! Deb is coming to pick her up on the weekend of the 18th, so I get to keep her for an extra week before she travels all the way up to the great northeast portion of the US. Here's her official pic (the human is actually mine, my 8 year old daughter, Kennadee. I tried to throw her in on the deal with Saffron but Deb said she was done with kids and wanted something easier ;D)

Deb and I have been in communication since I found out Steeler was pregnant......your order came in a little too late. I'll be sure to put you on the waiting list for the next litter next year. Steeler's gonna have one more litter and I'm going to keep a female from that litter and continue her lineage. Then Steeler will be done. Some folks will have 4 or more litters with a dog but I only like to do two. I think it's hard on the dogs and Steeler is a working dog as well. So, you'll be on the waiting list along with others who requested pups but we just didn't have enough to go around.
SD,
don't get me wrong i am just cutting up.
i am happy for deb and her family, when i saw her puppy pic under her name i was excited for her...
i have been watching her posts and hoping that she would get her pup.

no offense taken there.
we just gotta take it in stride!
Congrats Deb & family!
Saffron looks like she will make a great family addition! ;) 8)

Debs, I know what you have been going through finding a pup. I don't mean just locating one but all of the research you put into this breed. You busted your buns learning about these gentle creatures.(the gentleness comes after the intial nips) :D :D :D You earned Saffron and I know you're going to be a great guardian for her. Don't forget the oversized bag when you pick Saffy up. ;)
Congrats deb!

The crate is big enough for two :D we can adjust the divider as needed. Though we have been joking about this for so long that I think Marc will be on the defensive, it will have to be planned carefully :D.
Yay Deb!!
How exciting, I am so thrilled for you!
It's okay about the pics...hearing about it this way is so much funner!
I missed out on all of this because I've been dealing with chicks hatching in my incubator since Monday, they just finished this morning.
It's like being in labor for 3 days! :D
Marc,
The puppies are looking adorable,
you sharing them with us on this forum has added a lot of sunshine in our lives!

Since everyone is in the puppy mode. I was looking around (Cause Momma told me to find it!) and found a Dog Treat recipe that I make. I know the name is kinda funny but just double the size of the batch and make the drops a little bigger on the cookie sheet for the bigger dogs. I also try to form the drops into a nugget shape. My Lab used to love 'em and the Jack/Rat can't get enough of them. Anyone can make these, its a great Sunday afternoon project to do with the kids or Grandkids.
Ankle Biter Peanut Butter Drops
(For those little guys out there)
3/4 cup flour
1 egg
1 tablespoon honey
1 teaspoon peanut butter
1/4 cup shortening
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 cup rolled oats
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1. Heat honey and peanut butter in microwave until peanut butter is melted (about 20 seconds)
2. Mix add remaining ingredients
3. Drop by 1/2 teaspoonful onto cookie sheet
4. Bake at 350 F for 8 to 10 minutes.
Store in a air tight container.
Thanks 10.5, copied it to my files. I'll be baking it up soon.
The boys will like the change from the 30lbs of dried bananas we're working on. ;)
Deb,
Congratulations!!! As another member of this forum has put so eloquently, "She's a Keeper." Enjoy your new friend ;)
Jeff
Hey Deb,
How are you going to keep yourself from wanting to sing the first couple of lines "Mellow Yellow" to your new puppy Saffron?
;)
I love her name!
Food names are cool for dogs. Not for chickens though! Every time my daughter gives a food name to a chicken something eats it. She had "Cream Puff", "Cookie Crumb", and "Oreo Cookie" and they all go eaten by either coyotes or hawk. She just named a new chicken "Cheese Puff" and told her not to grow too attached! I don't think that is a worry for a dog unless it's a yorkie or chihuahua.

HCT keeps mentioning the song and it has been stuck in my head for quite awhile. I actually downloaded it to my phone the other day but haven't listened yet :)
Our dog that died in September was Nutmeg. She was brindle with no white and looked just like the inside of a nutmeg, that is what got us started. We also have Cocoa & Sage (cats, though Sage thinks she is a dog).
Good luck to Cheese Puff, I hope Cheese Puff is not doomed.
We had a chicken once (thanks to the kindergarten teacher). My son named her Fluffy. Fluffy spent about six months with us and then moved to her winter home (my brother-in-laws farm). Dick hated that chicken, it would run up to him and be underfoot because it thought it was a pet. Dick was an old farmer type who didn't make friends with his animals

Great pics everyone. It's really enjoyable to see all the smart and beautiful dogs on board.
Ben blew out his left knee last sunday. :( ACL operation is scheduled for thursday. It amazes me how these guys and gals just keep going even when in pain. Ben is hobbling along and even runs when something interests him outside. They just never stop giving 200%. Such great role models. :)
AH, HCT, that sucks! Keep us posted on Ben's condition. You're right; they never let on how much pain they could be in.
Yes, please keep us updated...I remember the support for our little Monty from this forum...we are an amazing group...Dogs aren't kids but they are close to some of us...
HCT,
sorry to hear about Ben.

Beautiful girls SemperFiPhil.
Sorry to hear about Abbie.
Deb
Sorry about Abbie - I know that feeling.
We have added another chocolate lab to our family - pics forthcoming. He's sort of a "rescue" in that he has had three homes in his three years. I'm going to fix that. Less than 12 hours after we got him, he went on "walkabout" - The Mrs. found him about four hours later...
Maybe I need one of these:

Him.
It is amazing how fast they can wrap themselves around your heart.
Our little Monty had to have surgery AGAIN yesterday...he went in for a damn shot...had a little tumor on his eyelid (I just thought he scratched too hard)...anyhoo...I was a wreck yesterday...now he just looks like (As I told my friend...Da Marinator)...he went 15 rounds with Ali and the vet was the cut man!! He's doing well...but I really hate that cone-head thing... ???
And he is "thrilled " with me putting salve IN his eye...really goes over well... ???
Semper Fi, sorry about Abbey. It always sucks to lose a dear one. I still cry over the Dobie we lost last November. A friend of mine just got a red Dobie pup, and seeing the pictures of him just about put me over the edge.......at least I now have a new pup to spoil and snuggle when the need arises.
FL, your new addition has found a great home - that is always great to hear!
LQ, I hope that Monty recoups quickly! Keep us posted!
Mrs.
He's fine seemore...I'm always the basket case...thank god for my hubby...he talks me off the ledge!!! ;D
Hey all,
Picked Ben up yesterday afternoon, I wanted to get him in the morning but was told Ben wouldn't stand up. That sounded strange to me for Ben. When I finally did get him I found out why, he has a full leg cast on. Acl was torn, meniscus was shredded badly. I know he's real uncomfortable when down, can't turn over on other side and it's a real chore for him to get up. I guess it's easier to deal with just laying on the one side until it gets unbearable.
I'll post a pic later.
As promised:

He's a beauty FL Bent...what a handsome young man!! ;D
So... I put them both in the Van to go get my Daughter from youth group @ church.
She opens the sliding door on the van.... One dog out, then 2.... Realize that there are teenagers everywhere....
The next thing I know they have made their way INTO the youth center.....
It took us about 10 minutes to get them corralled...
never a dull moment around here.
He's awesome FL!
Sounds like you are having fun with him..... :)
I am picturing a scene from a Disney movie with kids and dogs and pandamonium all around! ;D
The lab is a beauty, FL!
HCT give Ben a hug for me!
Mrs.
FLR this is a great looking dog. We had one just like that. He was into everything, almost flunked out of Puppy training class. The chocolate lab was fun for sure, and Onry as all can be. But we loved him. He passed away almost two years ago and our hearts still remind us of him when we see another chocolate like our Cody. Have fun.
OK, I am late to the Lab party but There is 2 different Labs in them pix FLB posted. Look at the Muzzle the bottom one has a different coloring. Not to mention that FLB said he put BOTH of them in the van to go get his daughter.
10.5 i think if you look at the pics again you will see the same color shape on the muzzle,
the different angle makes it look a little more pale.
also if you look above what would be his left nostril, you will see what looks like a small bald
spot.
i know he said both of them got out of the van but me thinks we are lookin' at the same pup
in both pics. BUT i have been wrrrrr (mistaken) before.

I haven't even been drinking and I STILL say them is two different dogs!! That's my story and I'm sticking to it. ;D ;D
10.5 Betcha a 48 pack of wood pucks! :)
OK Your on!!
FLB One Choclate Lab or TWO?
My guess is two
Sounds like the making of a contest!
maybe I'll offer some chicken jerky for DOG ID. :D :D or would that be "collar" ID ?
Here is a pic, of both dogs...

and another:

I don't know why they are always in the same order, the bigger one in the back of the picture.
Up in Smoke HICKORY is the flavor of choice!!! But you have to use the pucks and report on everything you made with MY 48 pack of pucks.

I hope Ben heals well.
The elizabethan collar makes him look like a "labrador (satellite) receiver" - see if you can get the dog channel on! ;D ;D
My little mut has now learned how to open doors. First was doors that open away from you so we had to put hook latches on them. Now he can open doors that open inward. Needless to say, we have had a few rooms that the little one has customized.
LQ, I have some shoes and clothing that will be great for the desert in the summer. Lots and lots of ventilation for air flow. ;)

My old German Shepherd Max blew out his ACL on BOTH knees over the years. The post surgery looks awful, and having him limp around is heart-breaking, to say the least. Don't worry, though...Ben will be up and about before you know it.
JUST KEEP HIM FROM JUMPING!! He'll think he's better than he is and might rip his stitches and/or re-injure himself. Max did that on his second knee surgery and he had a bit of a limp to the end of his days.
This will all be over before you know it. The only major drawback I found was that Max readily associated the vet with pain and no longer was happy to go there. :/
After getting the pictures of the wings posted on the forum, he just couldn't hold out any longer watching what I was doing.
The lab was tired from chasing the little one around, or maybe it was the other way around. Both of them ran me out of my shoes.

SWEET pictures, Giz!
Aw, HCT, those pictures of Ben just make me feel bad. The poor guy. I hope all is doing well for him.
Jimmy, I know the frustration of trying to keep a dog "quiet" after surgery. Like that is possible................
Haven't posted a picture of Saffron in awhile. She is 15 wks and growing rapidly. I think she is twice as big as she was when we picked her up at Marc's.
With her best friend Bella :

Great looking family there Jimmy!
Mrs. here. I just HAD to post this.
Tasha was spayed last week. Her ears began to droop again.
Needless to say, we had to re-tape her ears, and put a cone on her head to keep her from getting to her stitches.
NEEDLESS to say, the Diva was not at all happy. I think these pictures illustrate just how "much" she wanted to do with Scott and I:

Deb, Saffron is a BEAUTY! Don't ya just love to watch those puppies GROW and GROW and GROW????
Before long, she will be as big as her best friend!
Jimmy, love the dogs!!! I bet the little guys rule the big guy, don't they????
I hate when you write a post and the computer eats it >:( >:(
Jimmy - awesome looking dog kids.
Mrs. - Poor Tasha, I need to talk with the vet on timing for Saffron. She is growing fast - she just lost some baby teeth. How is obedience going? We just finished round 1 of puppy obedience. We are doing another round of puppy rather than moving up with the others because Saffron forgets how to sit when we walk in the building because she is so excited. The instructor really mixes up the class and doesn't do just sit, down, leave it. She does some tiny jumps, tunnels & stuff too- this is the stuff that Saffron loves. She also teaches kayaking with your dog, I think that we will do some kayaking lessons in the future, we have everything but a life vest for Saffron ;D.
Saffron will make a fine kayaker!!! Tasha completed beginner obedience, but she did not graduate. Another beginner class is beginning next Wednesday, so I will be taking her to that. An intermediate class will be beginning by mid-July so I am hopeful that she will be ready to advance by then.
I think I am going to put her in agility too. Not for competition, just for fun. She will love the running, jumping, etc.

I'm going to do the same with Saffron. Once the dogs get past basic obedience we can sign up for a flex program, paying for a certain number of classes. There are many different choices which include agility. It's nice because you aren't tied into a certain time slot every week. Here's another thing that Saffron can do when she gets older http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d3hgNuEMLOA&feature=related her school is pretty cool ;D
I gotta jump back...the cone head goes over like a turd in the punch-bowl here....if one has to wear it...the other does a tease with toys....2 dogs....6 months apart...JUST LIKE KIDS (well, the timing is different with peeps...but...ya know what I mean) ;)

Yes, last week. He is back to his old self running around and chasing the Lab. His mom is a boxer and they believe the father was sharpei but I am not too sure of it. We were at petco a couple months ago and some guy came up to me and asked what the breed was as he wanted one just like it. Boxer/Sharpei or Heinz 57 was the best I could offer.
He loves you Giz...who cares what he is...he looks like a sweetheart...damn I love dogs... ;D They are God's little gift to man.... :)
Here are pictures of my wife's 6 month old Irish Wolfhound. This is our 1st inside dog in 30 years. She plays like a cat and likes telephones, remote controls, digital cameras, newspapers and WINE.

He's just 9 months old, and he is full of energy. Cesse would be happy to lay in my lap all day (which makes it hard to read the forum).
Cesse and Irv are happy about the smoker too. They now get rib bones as treats.
Awesome York. Those cones are fun to deal with. Takes at least two weeks for the leg and shin cuts to heal. :D
York, your baby does not look very pleased with that cone. I love the expression!
Here is the latest of Tasha, taken when we were camping:
As you can see, she has claimed that chair for herself, and took advantage of the window seat to look at all the birds and bunnies in the campground..........
Cesse and Irv? I gotta tell ya...I love what people name their dogs...truly I do...we have Margaret and Montgomery (my husband is English...go figure) but we just call them Monty and Maggie...if they misbehave we pull out the proper names...they respond??? That's kinda whacky!!! They get scared!!! Could be my husband's booming voice... :D
LQ, how is Monty these days?
A man and his dog were walking along a road. The man was enjoying the scenery, when it suddenly occurred to him that he was dead. He remembered dying, and that the dog walking beside him had been dead for years. He wondered where the road was leading them.
After a while, they came to a high, white stone wall along one side of the road. It looked like fine marble. At the top of a long hill, it was broken by a tall arch that glowed in the sunlight.
When he was standing before it he saw a magnificent gate in the arch that looked like mother-of-pearl, and the street that led to the gate looked like pure gold. He and the dog walked toward the gate, and as he got closer, he saw a man at a desk to one side.
When he was close enough, he called out, "Excuse me, where are we?"
"This is Heaven, sir," the man answered.
"Wow! Would you happen to have some water?" the man asked.
"Of course, sir, Come right in, and I'll have some ice water brought right up."
The man gestured, and the gate began to open.
"Can my friend," gesturing toward his dog, "come in, too?" the traveler asked.
"I'm sorry; sir, but we don't accept pets."
The man thought a moment and then turned back toward the road and continued the way he had been going with his dog.
After another long walk, and at the top of another long hill, he came to a dirt road leading through a farm gate that looked as if it had never been closed. There was no fence.
As he approached the gate, he saw a man inside, leaning against a tree and reading a book.
"Excuse me!" he called to the man. "Do you have any water?"
"Yeah, sure, there's a pump over there, come on in."
"How about my friend here?" the traveler gestured to the dog.
"There should be a bowl by the pump."
They went through the gate, and sure enough, there was an old-fashioned hand pump with a bowl beside it.
The traveler filled the water bowl and took a long drink himself, and then he gave some to the dog.
When they were full, he and the dog walked back toward the man who was standing by the tree.
"What do you call this place?" the traveler asked.
"This is Heaven," he answered.
"Well, that's confusing," the traveler said. "The man down the road said that was Heaven, too."
"Oh, you mean the place with the Gold Street and pearly gates? Nope. That's hell."
"Doesn't it make you mad for them to use your name like that?"
"No, we're just happy that they screen out the folks who would leave their best friends behind."

My God Geofite! :'(
Very... very sorry to hear this. I'm really glad he is recovering well.
Must have been "hell" to say the least!

Sure am glad he is in good hands. It is a shame that something like this has to happen.

Mr W., I never stop learning from my guys. You'd think that they would get frustrated dealing with my ignorance. ;) :)
Geofite,
Gee so sorry that happened to your dog. We have 4 dogs and 2 cats. They are our babies and we are sure yours is a baby as well.
Last year one of our females blew out a knee. It cost us $2,700.00 but today she runs and rules the back yard. Worth every damn dime of it.
They do have a way of healing quite quickly, and owning your heart. Best of luck!

Thank you, everyone for the well wishes for Gabe and for sharing what happened with your beloved pets. Yes, I too paid a lot of money to save Gabe, and I would have paid whatever it took to help him.
He just had his drain out and is moving around really well. He is no longer crying and yelping so this is a good sign that he is well on the way to recovery.
Thanks, again for the well wishes and support. You guys and gals are the best.

That black/white photo is nice picture.
Speaking of Boston Terriers when we were gone at a tournament this summer my daughter had one of her friends watch her Boston and lost the dog

Her name is Lucy, we miss her. We put adds in the paper, posted fliers all over the place, contacted the police, sheriff and all the vets with no luck finding her. I dont think we will ever see her again, she was so loving and fun to watch play with the other dogs and had quite an personality. We miss her allot!
That sucks.
How can people do that ?

Agreed... Same class of people who dump unwanted animals out in the country.
I've got 2 rescue critters at home now that were dumped, starved half to death on the vet's farm. The rest of the litter was probably eaten by coyotes... I'd like to get my hands on people who do that.
As stated in a different post, I have and breed a type of dog called Alapaha Blueblood Bulldog.
This is Ericka. I co-own her with a family in town. We have a breeding planned for her in late Dec.

Haven't posted a pic of Saffron in awhile. She's 7 months and just under 50lbs now. Sunday was beautiful and she learned how to kayak. She did awesome! I was fully expected to go over at some point or to have to throw her in the water but she was pretty calm.

That was right at the beginning. By the end she had her nose pretty much touching the water. This was her first non-bath water experience. She went right in the water when we got there but she's not so sure about swimming yet. I imagine next summer she will be swimming beside me.
Hi Deb!
Great pic of you and Saffron!
She's getting so big, what a lovely young lady. :)

My Wife gets home from the mine tomorrow and maybe I can get a picture of my dog on my computer.
The usual, silver, lead and zinc. Works keeps her gone for two weeks, then she has that many off. The money is not great, barely over $100,000 a year, but the retirement is very good quality. Also insurance is very good.
What does your Wife do?
If you divorce, you get another try.

Because you are good at whine.

Bentley looks like a long nose boxer. Our Bonnie is a long nose boxer.
For those that don't know "Boxers" are a man-made breed. A mix between an English Bull Dog and a Great Dane originally. What is funny is when you see one that has the body and size of a Great Dane with the pug face of an English Bull Dog. Now you can talk about big sticky kisses all you want until one of those licks ya--instant whole face wash...thank you very much~~! ;D
Olds,
Bentley does have a longer face for a boxer but after having nothing but great danes for 20 years before him he looks like a little frog to us :D
We just adore him!
OU812 has a boxer, too.
I love the new little Boston boy!

Monty,
After seeing your pics of Miles and OU812's Tucker, I could see adding a Boston Terrier to the family.
My mom had one in the late 1950's named Bimbo. :D
Carolyn
Caribou,
If your Bentley is anything like our boxers he will not back down from anything. Our first boxer "Bonnie1" got into a fight with two coons that fell off of the fence into our back yard. She was sliced and diced to the tune over over 200 stitches. But those two coons ended up being very dead.
Our current "Bonnie" has no fear. Don't discount Bentley due to size. Once he hits 65 -70 pounds he will be one lean mean fighting machine. Once he figures it out he can clear with just two steps a 4 - 5 foot fence without touching the fence. And you can take that to the bank! Plus they are very loving and gentle pets until they perceive a threat. They seem to know no pain in a fight.
Oh ya Bentley is a handsome Brindle.
I can back up what Olds has said, my boxer was in a full blown tag team with 2 coons one night and be for i could do any thing about it she had both dead and killing them again. I can still see the scars all over her head and can feel them when you pet her. Dont worry the Boxers are very loving and have never raised a lip to any one heck my kids when they were younger use to lay on her. She is just a territorial bitch. Now she has a hard time getting up, she has a pin in her back leg from another miss hap and i think its catching up with her.
I guess upside down is natural for boxers. This boxer mix likes to play with his bones upside down before he devours them.

I was squeaking it, and trying to get my camera phone ready - just as she lunged for both.

Finally got something to post here. Right after my son got his house he got a rescue Great Dane. Real lucky getting a very good dog with a great personality. Here my grandson 25 months is being introduced to 15 month pup.

Miles is a good looking boy, cant wait till Tucker slows down a bit he has got his legs under him now and man has he become a little #ucker. ;D
Last night when Tabatha (my daughter) was doing her home work he kept taking her pens and pencils then running to his corner to hide, to funny.
He lets us know when he needs some water by bringing his water bowl to the bathroom door and barking.

Toby has done the same here as well but his real trick is opening the doors when he wants to go out or come in (yes he can open doors that swing out or in)- to any room in the house. Beware to lock the bathroom door or he will visit you. :o
We were in the shop last night and Tucker started barking at the feed bucket, when I called him to me he came over for a second then ran over to the ground corn and started barking again. When I went to see what he was barking at he had stopped so now I really wanted to see what he was up to.

Then he had to check out the mower.

He is like a two year old kid, getting into every thing. Fun Fun
Maybe Tucker saw a bug in the corn. We have had a lot of bugs in our house this year. I wish the pup would quit bringing them in to play with. :D
Tucker is able to jump up on the couch now, dont know if Blonka likes it or not.

Not a dog - duh, but it is a stray, that we fed for over 5 years, but never got any closer than 3 feet to her/him (never got prego, so probably a him). On the front porch - saw him/her sitting there next to the concrete cat and almost fell over myself getting to my camera. This is one of my wife's favorite photos. Actually taken over a year ago through the glass door in the front, and just found it in my files. Unfortunately, he/she stopped coming about 3 months ago. Although never touched him/her, she/he endeared himself/herself to us. Always seemed to appreciate all we did for her, but always seemed to get scarred up in fights and would just sit in the window looking at us. Miss seeing him/her sitting in the window - greeting me in the morning - actually waiting to be fed. We called her/him - Gray.

I wish I had a good shot at it, but I didn't. Ran to the farm store today for Science Diet, and they were getting ready for the Halloween Pet Parade.
The local pet shelter had all their dogs there, dressed up in their Halloween best... It was a zoo in that place. (figuratively speaking)

I took her for a "walk" this morning before the rain hit.
Some walk.....she sees a squirrel, and goes BESERK. Not even wearing a prong collar seems to matter when there is a squirrel to chase....so much for obedience school..... :-[
So, that would make me Scooby's even dorkier sidekick, Lord what is his name????

Fuzzy she looks good~~!
Good looking Boston you have there fuzzy. I'm a Boston lover also, are little Tucker is 4 mouths now and the tarrier is really showing know. If your missing any thing just go over to his corner and you will find it.
Fuzzy, she is a sweetheart! When I was a young girl our neighbors had a Boston Terrier who was the sweetest! When she got excited she would do a little dance!
There is nothing better than a velcro dog, in my opinion....

To funny! Mine won't drink water unless it's in her bowl, she will however use her amazing "Hoover" powers in the kitchen - the floors never need mopping! :D
Tucker is like having a 2 year old (human) in the house again, first all the presents had to be put up on the hutch, then all the ornaments from the ground up to knee high were brought to us one by one. I would take him over to the tree each time and scold him, he would leave them alone till he got wound up, which dont take much, then he would dart over and snag one on his way by. Now when I came home the other night he was under the tree looking like he was in trouble, you know that look they give you when you catch them doing something they know they are not suppose to be doing. Well he was all tangled up in the lights so as I untangled him he broke free and took off but stopped as if he was on a leash, then when I crawl out from under the tree I seen this.

See the light bulb in the last pict? Hes lucky the lights weren't on or he would really be wining. He Was dam lucky it wasn't wrapped around the other end, if it was he probably wouldn't be with us anymore cause it was wound pretty dam tight. He dont come close to the tree anymore. Wounder why?
Another miss hap with my dogs, man this is taking allot out of me.
OU:
Bostons have two things going for them:
1. you can't trust them
2. when the break the trust, they kill you with love!
He was fortunate it didn't wind up around his neck!
I lost a sofa and love seat along with several doggie beds to my prior two Bostons - something about furniture foam/stuffing they didn't like!
The new one got caught gnawing on the baseboards! Now, there's a big rock in front of the gnaw spot. The only toy I found that has held up is the "kong" - everthing else lasts about 5 mintues!
Maybe Tucker is going through doggie stress when you leave the pack?
Tucker got messed up pretty bad last Fri and we had to take him to the vet. He has a fracture front leg, some bruised ribs, a big abrasion on his belly and one of his testes is pushed back inside. Poor little guy was in allot of pain over the week end but the doc gave him some pain killers or doggie downers, not sure.
He is gettin along better now and can jump up on the couch with out squealing in pain. Now that hes feelin better hes back to his ornery self. Found him last night all comfey and warm, fresh out of the dryer.
Hes a wopping 15 lb now, the vet said he is going to be fine and check back in 2 weeks. I was out side when he got messed up and the only thing I can come up with is he must have got stepped on by a cow or horse. It was dark and I didnt here any thing or see any cars go by.
Glad he's doing better. Yeah he probaly took a hoof kick or the like.
These are my 2- Riley, a Springer Spaniel and Cody, an English Cocker Spaniel. Both are bird fanatics. I don't hunt with them so my Dad says they are a waste of good dogs. They are our kids, no 2 legged ones.

Between the eyes and the bottle, (s)he looks soused. ;D

My Springer turned 8 in Dec. Birds are an obsession with him. The Cocker turned 6 yesterday, great retriever.
Paddlin, your pups are gorgeous! Love the pictures, especially the one with the bottle....
OU, please keep us posted on Tucker. Poor little guy....
Mrs
Tucker is gettin better every day, hes still young, they snap back quick.
Last night I let the short hairs in the house, great house dogs a little high strung but they mellow out after a wile.
Tucker tries to keep up with them but when he does his 180 deg turn on a dime he gives off a little yelp but keeps goin.
When we let him out to go potty now he dont go far from the house anymore, wounder why?
Hows Tucker doing?
One of ours:

Did you forget to put the cheese in the fridge??? :D :D
My Kansas Son has started his puppy collection. The Dane was the first addition as soon as they got thier house. It has had a couple of additions since then.
The lady is his wife who never really worries about being home alone ;D

The next one I think he calls Theft Prevention - car alarm or something like that. Pretty sure it would work by any name - at least for me. Mastifs are real cozy pups by nature.

WCK!
What beautiful dogs :)
I esp. have a soft spot in my heart for harl Danes...that's all I had for 20years until 4 years ago.
I posted a pic of one of my Danes somewhere in this thread
Carolyn
FLB, I LOVE the green nails. Getting ready for St. Patick's Day??? ;)
WKS, Caribou is right. Danes are just wonderful dogs. And Mastiffs are gentle giants. Tasha goes to obedience school with a Neopolitan Mastiff. And you are so correct: nobody is ever going to bother your son and his wife!!!

My girls did that to him a while back. I think they were testing the holding power of the nail polish...
I'll mention it to them, they will probably re-do.

Mastifs are family dogs. Don't think so? Just wait until that time comes. Mastifs remind me of Pits when it comes to protecting a family member.... they just don't let go. Kickem' bitem' beat them...they just don't turn lose. A full Bull Mastif is not an animal to have pissed off at ya. For those that don't know a Bull can go up to 140 pounds. Given no taller than they are the only word to discribe them that comes to my mind is TANK!
Great family dogs...just make sure you knock before entering. :o

Boxers are cool!
I have a white female, shes getting old and havin troubles gettin up, her hips are goin out.
My son has a male that looks like Cassius but he didnt crop the ears.
Yes Boxers are great! Cassius is 6 and Dempsey is 2.
I agree with WestKansas about the protection and my wife is never afraid to be home alone either ;D
Mastiffs are great dogs! One day I will own one but for now direct descendants will have to do!
Snelly, Cassius looks very noble in that first picture!
Mrs
Thanks Mrs.
Cassius is my baby. He has been through so much with me. Couldn't ask for a better friend :)
A hard day at the office. Just kicking back with a cold one.

As you all know, I don't keep pets but they seem to keep moving into the neighborhood and going to great lengths to blend in. Here's the new neighbors' teen-age son in mutant ninja poodle mode...

Hey OU, can I borrow those short hairs for quail season? :)
OU812 your Boston is awesome
Just wanted to share this photo of Miles from a charity fundraiser held recently at Westfest in Ottawa. A local photographer was taking 'mugshots' with all proceeds going to B.A.R.K. (Bytown Association for Rescued Kanines), a local canine rescue organization.
Miles was pretty happy looking considering he was being "booked" for stealing food!

I'm gonna need a wide lens but I'll get one the next time I'm over there ;D
This is Leila, she's currently 10 months old.
This is back when we first got her.

Wow still adorable but has she grown. Leila seems to have lost that innocent puppy look and replaced it with an energetic look of intelligence.
I don't think I have posted a picture of Saffron lately - we went out for a quick little paddle today

Looks like a good time Deb must have been a good conversation to get her to turn around and look backwards
