This is my youngest son Harry who is eight. He is already a demon at catching (bigger than me!) and gutting fish, is a wizard at pulling in my lobster pots, emptying them, rebaiting and setting them and is learning how to fillet fish correctly.

Got a sack of queen (bay) scallops off a local trawler yesterday, though it was about time he learnt how to clean them! It's a 2 hour job on your own to clean and process a whole sack .... all help is appreciated!  ;) :D

Those look great Paul....

My own 11 year old son has recently started showing an interest in my hobby....  I had him trimming up and helping me rub 3 pork shoulders last week for a big BBQ on Saturday.  He's also my offical "door holder" when moving stuff into the cabinet.  Don't QUITE trust him yet to actually carry the trays....  he's going through a real growth spurt and can trip over his own shadow on a cloudy day if you know what I mean...  clumsy as heck!

Nice looking younster there! Looks like he is enjoying the experience.

Thanks guys. This is actually my favourite:

My two boys had gone down to see the trawler unloading whilst I went to get my car to put the queenies in. When I went back Harry had improvised and was pushing the bag of queenies up the pier on his skateboard, much to the amusement of the trawler guys and the guys from the fish processing factory!  :D

How cool it would be to live in a place where if you decide you want scallops that day you just go down to the dock and buy them straight off the boat.  I am so envious.

Great looking photos.  Thanks for sharing those!

Great looking kid!

I miss being able to go to the docks and buy seafood as well.

We are sending our kids off to school knowing how to cook!

Sorry to make you even more envious KyNola, but I don't even have to buy em!! Whenever the guys are over their quota they just give me a ring on their way in and see if I want any !! I often get back from work and there is a sack on my doorstep..... or some crab ..... or a lobster!  ::)

I do make sure I keep em supplied with steak and smoked goodies however, as I have another friend who is related to a butcher so a few of us have a really good bartering system going in that if any of us have anything over we give it to someone else, no-one keeps tabs on who has given what though!  ;) :D

So what is the address of your 'doorstep' and when do you normally get home from work...

Man you got it made.... Hopefully this next spring when the snowbirds leave I can pick up an extra wide flats boat, at a good price, so I can cast for shrimp, lobsters and craps,

Manxman,

I have recently bought a BBQ apron that says;

My secret fantasy is having two men; One to do the cooking and the other to do the cleaning.

It looks like your are half way on getting there.

I am also jealous and envious of being able to buy daily fresh sea food.
