Congratulations to the bride and groom and when the day comes you will be a great FIL I'm sure.

I know what you mean about them moving away but when they come to visit it will be a great occasion.

Congrats to your daughter and to Dad!  She getting hitched here or in the Big State?   I love receptions in Texas, especially in the "home" area.  Always good eats and good dancing!

30 years ago, we did the whole wedding for $250 plus about $250 for a new suit and a new dress.  8:30 in the morning and had orange juice and donut holes at the reception.  Rode off in my brand new RX-7!   Police stopped us within 3 blocks of the church - escorted me to a service station so I could wash off some of the "decorations".  That was a buzz-killer!

My boss and my best friend both just spent $50,000 each on their daughter's.

Well call me cheap or whatever. To begin with I couldn't afford that if I wanted to. And I couldn't enjoy it if I paid that much. Just imagine the stress that would put on the average smuck to try and pay for that. If I didn't have an ulcer from it I would go buy one so I'd have an excuse for all the pain I would be in. My wife and I did it for $350 and at the time that was tough for us. Back in the early 80's there wasn't much work around here. I was without much work for almost 2 yrs and that is why I took the job on the cattle ranch. Spent our 1st anniv. Having dinner at the bosses house and then went for along ride on the atv. Found a nice quiet grassy place overlooking the river along way from anyone and .........well you know. The point was before my mind started to wander yukyuk some of the best most lasting ones don't have to break you to be good things. My sisters wedding cost my parents $15,000 and only lasted 5 months.

It's funny how things work out.  I did the photography at a wedding for a guy I used to work with.  It was fairly informal and probably came in for less than $5000 including my $300 for photography.  It lasted less than 6 weeks.  I hardly had time to get the prints out.

OTOH, my wife and I knew each other for 6 weeks.  We went to Hudson, NH and got married by a JP.  It cost me gas, tolls, a few meals and a motel.  That was 37 years ago.  But, somehow, I'm still paying for it  ;)

Yeah we hired a jp and got married in our rented basement suite. Then we eat some good food and went to the bar.

Here in Jordan, most formalities take place at the engagement. After we re engaged by about three months I called my wife and told her that I would be getting back from Aleppo Syria for a few days and would like to go back with here with me. She agreed, we drove to Damascus, had a nice dinner, spent the night at the Meridien and next day continued to Aleppo.

Last August we celebrated our 13th anniversary.
