Again, I am in need of some clairity here.

I ordered the Digital 6 rack (has not arrived yet) and I do not plan to be smoking fish or sausage anytime soon.

Is a PID strongly recommended? Saw the link to: Auber: Bradley Smoker Controller, Programmable. It is described as a plug and play. A probe into the meat and alls well?

Anyone with a DBS (4 or 6, does it matter) and PID of some sort. I'm hopefull for an easy solution. Not interested in any fabrication or internal / mounting.

I'm hope I didn't get in over my head on this. :-\

Thanks again, and I appreciate the previous help  ;D

I don't have one for mine, I use it like it came straight out of the box. I haven't had any complaints. If you find the temp swings unsettling you can place a couple of aluminum foil covered bricks in the bottom to help.

I have the DBS6 and will be ordering a pid. It will control the temp much closer and give peace of mind on an overnight smoke. The probe doesn't go into the meat but checks the cabinet temp only. No fabrication needed with the Auber, it is plug and play but you will need an extra power cord. It can be ordered with the pid. Just my 2 cents worth.  ;D

Wait, what? I just ordered an Auber...did I need to order a power cord, too? Shucks...

Edit: Yeah, okay I went back to the site. Says you need an extra power cord if you're going to smoke for over 13 hours. I'm such a pack rat, I probably have a cord that'll fit anyway.

I don't have a PID on my OBS but I don't smoke things (like sausage and fish) that seem to need the tighter temperature control.   I also avoid overnight smokes (and probably would even if I had a PID).

I'd recommend that you go without at least until you get used to what you've got.  As long as you stick to poultry, ribs, brisket, pork butts, etc. you should be fine.  As you get into it, you can reevaluate and decide whether you need to make the extra investment.

Yup, you can work around it. But for 2.50, it's an easy fix and maybe you can still add it to your order.

PID's only cost $2.50?
Wouldn't that be great? No, just the extra power cord.

Actually, it says you need it for the DBS. I have an OBS, so perhaps I'm good to hook.

Sorry Kevin, that is the extra cord. Guess I should have worded it better.  ::)

Yup, your good to go Sarge. The OBS won't time out like the DBS. Good luck with it.

As long as it's in the $2.50 range, I can blow off the cob webs for that.
