My wife has been making this butter cake for over 27 years and is one of our Family favorites.

The recipe is from the Treebeard's Restaurant in Houston, Texas.

Ingredients
1    box yellow or white cake mix (the one that says pudding in the mix)
      1    stick butter
      1 lb confectioners sugar
      4    eggs
      1 ts vanilla
8 oz package of cream cheese

She mixes up box of cake mix, stick of melted butter, and 1 egg (room temp)
The mix will be kinda dry. Press into a 13x9 greased pan with your fingers.

(this is actually 2 recipes of the above)

With your mixer combine 1lb of conf sugar, 3 eggs, 8oz of soften cream cheese and the vanilla

Blend it till smooth. Pour on top of the cake mix mixture.

Bake at 350* about 45 minutes until the top just starts to brown.

Cool completely. Dust with conf sugar. Slice the way your heart desires. My wife makes smaller slices as it is kinda rich.

And this is what happens if you wait too long to get a picture.

Wow that looks awesome. Ok 2 questions. With the cake she doesn't add what the box calls for just the butter and egg? And does she cook the cake before putting the topping on and then brown the topping or does she put the topping on beofre she bakes the cake and then bake it all together at the same time?

The cake mix is the one with the pudding added to it already, and yes just the butter and 1 egg.

It all gets cooked together.

One more question Our butter comes only in 1lb blocks, is a stick of butter a quarter lb?

Yes on the butter.

Got some more info from wifie. It was like tryin to pull a tooth.

Event though the origional recipe calls for 13x9 she has stopped using that.

She said it made the recipe too gooey.

These two pans were a 12x17 and a 10x15. She said she use to make (1 recipe) it in a 11x16 pan but
that I (me?) lost it or used it for something. Geez! ;D

Also she said she has made it with the sugar on top and added chopped pecans.

She has cut it to bigger sections and added a halve strawberry to each piece.

Also she has left off the sugar on top and put cool whip on it.

NOTE: She made these with 1/3 less fat cream cheese.

OK I got it all down in notepad. Perfect. These are going to the next family get together most definitely.

This looks good. Might have to ask MrsNepas to make this for my bday instead of the choc/lemon filled i wanted her to make. She might even say ok  ;D

Dang Sonny!  That does look/sound good...  I gotta accidentally drop that recipe in MrsD's purse  ;D

And topping with pecans sounds good too...
Might give me an excuse to order a big box of 'em...

Every Christmas, my momma sends us fresh Florida citrus...
..and also pistachios and mixed nuts from:  http://www.sunnylandfarms.com/
The mixed nuts are great, but honestly, not all that much better than Planter's...
EXCEPT for the pecans... OMG...  SERIOUSLY...  They have the best pecans on earth.

So, to top something that yummy-looking with PECANS...
I'm just sayin'...

It is very easy to do.

Used to be her go to cake for different get-to-gethers.

When I ask her for the recipe, she had to go find it as I was too lazy to write it and type it.

You make it, you won't be dissapointed.
