Dual probe test run

Well I finally got my new dual probe this week. :D :D :D
Just giving it a test run to make sure I know how to work it.  So far so good
I think I'm really going to like this new toy/tool.  I have a chunk of brisket waiting
to get loved up with some smoke, assuming all goes well with the test run.
Hope to get it in around 8:00ish.

I have Auber Dual Probe envy.  BTW just setting up my hood.  What size vent pipe are you using?  The specs for my hood called for 6" if round.  So I went with it, just don't like the price of 6" flex,  going to the garage to set it up now.   Need to start two butts in the morn.

Thor, I am just using 4", had a lot of smoke backing up in garage.
I did not have the wire mesh filter holder on, and I think it was affecting how the air was moving under the
hood.  I put it on and it seems better.  Maybe you will be better off withe the six inch.  I can't see it making much
difference but worth a shot.  Let me know how you make out.

I have 2 of my smokers in my heated garage with a rangehood direct vented. At first I had some smoke in the garage (not much) until I realized that a range hood with a standard fan (not a drum style blower) actually only sucks air from the very centre. So I added a piece of 4" PVC pipe and that just sits on top of the BS over the vent. It worked very well but tended to draw too much air through the unit causing it to cool down. My solution was to notch the 4" pipe at the bottom to allow it to draw room air as well. I have found that I tend to have the vent slightly more closed now due to the assisted draw on it but I have no problem maintaining temps.

Nice setup. Nice garage/shop.  Nice boat.  Me, I am a blowter not a boater (sailing).

Just started a 2 butt smoke with my setup.   Since I am venting down and out the garage door I went with a 6" x 25' flexi.  So far seems to work great on high, on low a can see some smoke waffling out from under the hood.  This is a temporary setup, sometimes temporary becomes permanent (like with a girlfriend  ;D ).  I am about to post some pics and info on my setup.  I see many use the pipe with notches or a spacer.  I think I have a section of 5 or 6" PVC in the basement so will give it a try if it becomes a problem.

Edit:  12:20 and working great. The only issue is the mesh filter is collecting a little moisture and dripping a little on the OBS.  Nothing major.

Mike, I was thinking if doing something like that to solve my problem.
Thanks for the info, great looking set up you have there.  I love the dueling
smokers!!  Also that is a very cool PID really nice job! ;) Wish I had the skills
to build my own, but Auber does a pretty good job.  I am really loving mine after
just one smoke.  Going to try some jerky tomorrow and with the multiple temp required
I'm sure I will love it even more.
