It's sounds like you might be using the wrong scale on your meter, you should be getting around 11.5. I think you might need to be on the X1 scale. You also have to have it disconnected from the circuit otherwise you can get some bad readings.

It almost sounds like that 1250 W element is for a 240 volt system.

It is the element off the old smokey that I plug into 110.

based on what you told me that I should have gotten a reading of 11.5,

I had to multiply my 5.75 reading by 20.

I took a reading on the unknown element and got 8.5 X 20 = 17 / 120 = 7 x 120 = 840.

So I am calling it a 1000 watt element.

I have a cheapo meter. ;D

Thanks Kevin.

I just took a reading on an element that is advertised as a 1500 watt.

And by using those calculation, it came out to 1440.

Your getting great heat out of that 1500 watt element.

I agree with HawkeyeSmokes, get the top vent in and mount a smoke generator in it and do some test runs.

I have a small vent at the top. 1 1/2 vent tube.

I did one more test run using the 1200 watt element out of the

Old Smokey that I fixed for my Step Father.

30 mins/224*

45 mins/254*

1 hr/282*

1 hr 15 mins/298*

Also ordered a smoke generator for it last nite.

Looks like it'll be plenty powerful enough..
Get yourself another PID (or even a Ranco) to reign that sucker in.

Be careful: The Auber-WS is only rated for 12A at 120VAC and 1440 watts.

That's about what the Ranco is rated at as well. (maybe a bit less)  He'd need a SSR in between.

I have two PIDs I willtry first.

My Bradley SS Smoke generator was shipped yesterday and hopefully

will have it before the weekend to play with.

I will run a few more test with smoke gen and combination of elements

next week.

Good luck and I look forward too seeing how it works out.

Smoke Generator sat at UPS office 30 minutes from my house since thursday,

and today they are off for the 4th.

So I guess, hope, I will get it tomorrow.

Dang it!

I hate it when that happens! Tomorrows the day!
