If I could only use one I'd likely go with Maple.   IMO it goes with everything.  If you like a little stronger smoke flavour smoke a little longer.

I get to answer this before Kynola does!!!! HICKORY HICKORY HICKORY it goes with everything!!!

I use a lot of Apple as well.  Sometimes I throw in a few Pecans in between the apple pucks for a stronger smoke flavor.

10.5 gave you the correct and only answer. ;)

I use more Hickory than anything else.

I can't live with just one. Now if you let me have a choice of just two, then it would be oak for beef and apple for everything else. I love them all but these two are my top favorites.

I generally go with pecan, and oak is a close second.

I can narrow them down to 4.

Pecan, Oak, Hickory and Apple.

If I had to choose one, it would be.......

Pecoakoryle.

I'm pretty close with CRG on the wood.  But I usually use mesquite on brisket.
