Had people over for dinner on Wednesday. She is Puerto Rican and he is over here from Greece for about 10 days. What to cook? Heck, a pork loin roast coated in rib rub from SourthernSmoked's daughter. It was a real hit. Order up some of her rub now.

He brought presents from Greece. I figured the olives out (opened the bag) and the grape leaves. Not sure about the other stuff in the bottle.

I think you may be correct Larry. It has no distinctive flavor like ouzo. It's 41% alcohol by volume - the only thing I could read on the label.

I'll ask Andy when I can get in touch with him. They're going to NYC for New Year's eve tonight. Meanwhile, time for a nap. :-\

My guesses would be the jar on the left is stuffed grape leaves (dolmas) and the bottle on the right is Tsipouro, a Greek "brandy".

The grape leaves aren't stuffed but I think you nailed the booze Eric. Grappa is typically Italian while Tsipouro is Greek, though both seem pretty similar to make. It's rough stuff.

Hey, I'm not even sure I have the olive bag right-side up.

Well, if they're just preserved grape leaves, then you stuff 'em. See the second video I just linked in the funnies (but you already have experience, right ?).

Grappa is a good comparison - basically it's the Greek version. Some of them are accented with anise.

My Dad had a Greek friend who would periodically give him a huge jar of homemade pickled dolmas. I thought they were great, but they had adverse effects on my Dad's digestive system. Good for me. ;)
