Something happened and I am unable to open certain files by clicking it. I am using windows 7 and I get the following message. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks, Brad

Brad  - As far as I know, the 3 letters after the dot, ie whattheheck.XXX is what the programs associate themselves with. If the file is a photo say, you might try going into Windows Explorer and see if you can change the those letters to .JPG. Some files that reside within programs are ones that the program doesn't want you fooling with as they are part of the program itself. If it is a file you created, you should be able to change that portion of the file name.

Someone more computer savvy should be along to give you a more detailed explanation.

Good Luck - Randy

Just what is it you are trying to open???

It looks like "New folder" is a file - not an actual folder.

Note the capitalization of 'folder'.

Here is one I just created:

D:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Desktop\New Folder

It is a folder with documents and pictures stored in it. This is happening to most but not all of my folders. I have checked the properties between the folder that do and do not open and they seem to be the same.

Yes and I checked my registry and scanned for a virus.

Did you try to right click "open with"?

car54

Yes and it will open it but it should open just by clicking it. Some thing has changed.

Have you tried a system restore? If you haven't installed any programs lately go back about a week. It's not a cure all but it should work if your issue just started.

Smokin Soon

A system restore would probably work. Your file association somehow got jacked. To reset them use the "open with", and make sure the box is checked "allways use this".

I did the system restore and it worked. 3 days ago there was a critical update for windows but I do not know if that caused it. Thanks to everyone with their input and for the Bradley forum, a very freindly and helpful site for more then just smoking. I am proud to be a member!
