Ok steve you my friend need to be learned.  ;D  The darker you get the inards of these things the better they work my friend. You should never scrub the inside of your smoker. The most you need to do is when you get flaking. Then you just crumple up a piece of newspaper and give the flaky area a light rub. That is it.
