Apparently so!

The article they specifically said "In Nebraska, the runza is usually baked in a rectangular shape".

Sounds like the pasty I had in the Upper Peninsula.  (I pronounced it wrong and was *immediately* corrected  :o)

My great grandma (who immigrated from Germany) use to make these all the time.

She called them something other than a Runza, I think it started with  B

Now that's a Runza!  Hadn't had one of those since visiting our son in Nebraska when he lived(was stationed) there.  Was thinking of those a while back but couldn't think of the name to google it.  Thanks for posting...now I'm searching for a decent recipe.

Had some nachos with a couple jalapenos and a splash of hot sauce.  ;D

Looking through the fridge and came up with these. Not sure if anybody has tried these in the past but they are really good.
Started with a roll of Grands biscuits.
Pulled pork, leftovers.
BBQ sauce.
Flatten out a biscuit and add a heaping spoonful of pork, top off with some sauce.

I never claimed to be a baker so quit making fun of the way they look.  ;D

Here they are out of the oven. Cooked at 350 for 15 minutes.

Just before diving in. Only thing I would do different, do not put on a rack like I did, they were hard to get off cause the sunk down between the wires.
