I am running Windows 7 on my laptop and it wasn't playing well with
Photobucket. I didn't want to install Windows 8 yet.

So I installed firefox just for photobucket. My camera is set on 1M
(smallest setting) and the pictures still come out hugh.

They use to have a place to set your pictures to a certain download
size. that has been removed but might be added at a later date.

Right now, I am having to edit each picture. Click picture, click edit,
click resize, I use 470 and let puter set the other size, click save,
check replace original, click save again. A pain in the butt.

If someone knows a better way I am listening.

This is a 470 X 352 picture.

When you down load your pictures from your camera you can right click them and open them with microsoft office. In microsoft office you can click on edit picture and then click on compress picture. choose document and it will drop a 1.5 meg picture down to about 2-3hundred k bites. I go through all the pictures at once and then save them. They are now reduced and ready to upload to photobucket. They will upload much faster as the files are much smaller.

One thing I liked about Photobucket was that it automatically resized the photos to something like 800x600 when I uploaded them. I used to have to go into MS Paint and use the "Stretch/Skew" option.  Maybe it was something in the default setup that I never changed but it was a welcome feature.

With the new Photobucket I don't know if they've removed that but I hope it's at least one thing that they didn't mess with.

While working on the tutorial, I could not get the editing tools to work with my system. I have Windows 8 and using IE 10. I didn't take the time to troubleshoot the problem, it could be my anti virus or my settings in IE. The default size for pictures appears to be 640 x 425 pixels. That is what my photos are ending up being on Photobucket.

One feature I am finding that I really like, is that they made it much easier to create albums, and to set the privacy settings for an album.

Nice job Habs

Thanks!

This project gave me the opportunity to try out some new software I have had for about a month.
