i use a mix of apple juice and jack daniels, it's pretty awesome, also have a spray bottle with it for during the smoke.

I don't inject at all.  Have never seen a reason to inject nor the necessity to inject as a butt should have plenty of moisture within already.

But that's why they make chocolate AND vanilla!  To each his own. ;)

I like chocolate and vanilla :D

I use Chris Lilly's recipes with a few tweaks

This is enough for about a 14-16lbs butt
3/4 cup Apple Juice
1/2 cup Water
1/2 cup Sugar
1/4 cup Table Salt
2 Tb Worcestershire

I this makes the flavor pop big time. Now I know why he is a six time world champion

Same here except I found it too salty.  I use 1/8 cup course sea salt which would be less than 1/8 cup table salt.  More often than not I will replace the water with dark beer mixed with pork stock.

Pachanga I agree with it very salty. I end up drinking a gallon of water and dry mouth in the middle of the night. I cut down the salt as well.

I have to try it with beer instead of water.

You guys are injecting brines.  Of course it's going to be salty.

pensrock

I have injected with CT as well, not so much for the moisture but to get more flavor deep inside.

sage03

I'm liking the Jack and apple juice....or was it apple juice and Jack???!!! ;D

Oh Wise Turtle, you make a great point. Your comment is correct.  With that amount of salt, it is exactly that; a brine.  However..........

Mr. Lilly calls this a quicky brine and claims it is his injection winner.  I am not so sure he is sharing all of his secrets and exact proportions but it is a good starting point.  After cutting the salt down to a reasonable amount, it is more than excellent.

That said, I will always defer to the Wise, Astute and Clever Turtle when talking about salty brine;  after all he is surrounded by the stuff in his heavenly paradise on the Islands.
