Okay....for those that have always wanted to fish the Kenai River in Alaska and haven't had (or taken!) the chance to, do it TODAY at http://www.peninsulaclarion.com/kenairiverrun/kenairiverrun.html  I gotta admit that the "Zinging drag" gets my heart pumping, even on a computer.. ;) ;D

Gizmo

I got a boot, a cell phone and only 375 lbs of fish.  Took a while to figure out the proper technique.  Got to hit them on the head, not lead them.

....Is fishin that good in Alaska ?

To keep the tourist congestion down to a minimum, I'm tempted to say "No", but truth be told, it's actually better then this digital version, most times. Besides the fact that I've never seen such a stiff legged moose and that 63 pounders are not the average size, the fishing itself, as you've described, is "bangin"!!  The "secret", of course, is knowing where to go, what to use, and how to use it, but I've literally caught nice 10-12 pounders until my arms ached. (The Alaskans on the forum will know I'm talking about Pinks, a "utility" grade of salmon, but fun to catch on ultralight gear!) Halibut, char, salmon dolly varden, trout, pike, cod, shark......on and on.....Yup, the fishing in Alaska is THAT good, Pigout!! The only thing more fun than catching them is eating them....  ;) :)

Wish I could get this many of any fish at my local lake, but I managed to get 14 total, for a weight of 425#.  5 kings at 295, largest was 61, 5 Sockeye for 59, 2 Dolly for 31, and 2 Steels for 40.

If the weather is decent Sunday, gonna break out the rod and try to nail a few Walleye...We have a 3 fish limit, 15" minimum here on them...would be nice to limit out once (heck, be nice to catch one once).

Whoa, 86 pound King. :o  Dont think that would fit in the smoker.

Went out for the first trip in my boat this year here on Vancouver Island--2 springs, largest 23 lbs and 1 coho. Note the very cool gutting table that my bro-in-law built and shipped to me from the east coast for my xmas present. I take back everything I've ever said about in laws! It slides under the deck when not in use. Hopefully for the next few months it won't be under the deck much!
