Great news Giz........This made my day........I'm relieved for you and your family.

First: I'm glad to learn that you pulled through this calamity relatively unscathed.

But what I really wanted to say is that I'm proud you were able to put together that feast with everything else that's going on around you.  A little piece of sanity in crazy surroundings and undoubtedly a welcome release after all the stress and fear.

We did something similar back during the Loma Prieta earthquake.  Transformers had blown all over and fridges and freezers weren't getting any juice.  We fired up quite a few barbeques and cooked quite a bit of meat and made sure a fair amount of beer did not get warm that night.  A big island of a block party while we were receiving news about the fires in SF, the collapsed portion of the Bay Bridge, and the collapsed freeway connection in Oakland.

Take care and best wishes

Thanks All,
The neighbors here had a block party yesterday.  We were not able to attend as our daughter was getting married.
The hardest part was probably today.  Was over at Sears to pick up some household tools for the newlyweds and a lady was there picking up a set of pliers.  She asked if we were fire fictims and I feared our fortune was not hers.  My fears were confirmed as she lived just around the corner from us on Sierra Linda.  Really hard to find the words that would be magical enough to help.

Gizmo, just do the best that you can do. Your emotions and feelings are probably so confusing. You have gone through alot. Hang in there and keep the faith.

Sometimes there are no words that can help.  Actions always do.  Even a simple hug can work wonders to those who have lost everything.

Was wondering how hot it was at the house during the fires.  I remember today that I had a Min/Max history reading on the "Weather Station" with a temperature probe mounted outside on the lower patio.

154.5 Degrees was the max.  Guess I should have hung a few sides of beef sliced up for jerky before evacuating.  Would have been slow smoked, cooked and dehydrated.  :-\

WOW Giz....even hotter then we get!!! That's scary hot!

Giz: wanted to make a few temp/cooking cracks following your last post, but didn't want to be out of line.  Hope all is well in your locale.

Just curious: what was the Thanksgiving menu and what (many) items did you contribute to the feast?

La Quinta,
I thought you would appreciate the heat factor.

Consiglieri,
Thanksgiving was at my sister's and this year, I did not bring down additional meat products (first for a long time).  Just brought down a pumpkin triffle.

This was one of the smallest gatherings we had so we didn't have quite the usual fare.  Was still a great time and the break from smoking wasn't bad.

Sometimes it's nice to be the cook... Sometimes it's better to be the guest ;D.

Glad you had a vacation.
