so far so good and everything is been on the up and up from the city .. just need to be paicent to see that the city is gonna do and take it  from there

They'll do the right thing beef....it'll be good...and with all of the the foreclosures out here...you could probably get a killer home for a song!!! I'd be rather skeptical if they offered to "fix" your home. Slab cracks are not that big a deal...but it sounds like you have "twisting" going on...(which can also be fixed...very expensive) it might be less exspensive for the City to "contribute" to another home (in this market) rather then attempt to fix yours and carry the structural liability for 10 years.

Let us know what the "poop" is when you know!!

La Q
thanks for the information and will keep that in mind while dealing with the city

Beef, just curious. Is your house on a slab or a foundation with a crawl space?

beefmann

slab and it has dropted 3    inches the  last time i saw it on wensday... I believe that the 50 % of is compromised... and half of the sewer lines

What the heck did they do find a sink hole next to your house?

Hey Beefmann.....

Just wanted to check on you and see how you were doing.  Did the city take care of you guys yet?  Is everyone doing ok?

I hope all is well.  Just wanted to follow up.  Hope you and yours have a Merry Christmas!

We would all like to know as this plays out.  Ever since you posted this, I'm at a loss for words.  MAN where do you live?!!!  After 30 years in the construction business, it scares me that something like this could happen to me.  It sounds that they did all the right things.  The metal stuff that they drove in the ground is sheet piling.  Supports the surrounding earth so they don't have to lay back the sides and have to dig a HUGE hole.  Pretty strictly regulated by OSHA and others.  I've been pondering what caused it, but not knowing the geologic/soil conditions it is only a guess.
1.  When driving the piling, the vibration caused a consolidation of a soil seam, probably a sandy seam.
2.  When driving the piling they cut a water pipe of some type or diverted an underground stream and the water is gouging out a cave/sink hole under your
     house.
3.  When they pumped out the ground water, somehow that caused a settlement.
4.  Your house was built on partially uncompacted, or incorrectly compacted fill and the pile driving caused it so consolidate and settle.
5.  There was already a void under your footings and the vibration was the straw that finally broke the camel's back.

a few surprizes 1 bad and the rest good , the bad  first is the city tated that the house is destroyed and they dont want the liability of going through this again in    the future,
now the good, they are going to buy us a new ( to us any way ) a new home of equal value and even offered to purchase our personal property due to it  costing more then it would to cataloge and store it... they will allow us to keep some furnature and personal items  and purchase te rest... smell a new bradley and plasma tv... ;D ;D ;D ;D

as for some of caney questions

there was vibrations from the pilings that was driveninto the ground which may  have loosened the ground, as they removed the dirt inside there excavation site .. there was ground silppage hoizontal the deeper they went they went the wider the cracks... finally the construction company hit what the superintendant called a uderground stream and it released a lot of water back into the excavation site, that is when we started having structual damage on november 30 and december 2 we were out of our home and been out ever  sence, and the excavationd  site has been shut down ever sence.

over all.. all is well and still have things to take care of  such as find a new home.. ( late x mas gift?) all will be better after the first of the year..

thank you all for your support and concerns during this stressfull time in my and my family life
