My mother-in-law was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer about two months ago.  As we all know, this is one of the worst forms of cancer as it is usually detected too late.  They did surgery to remove a tumor that was blocking her bile duct.  Fortunately for her the tumor was where it was as the blockage was making her ill.  If it has not been blocking the duct, they probably would not have discovered the cancer as early as they did.

Doctors feel very good they got the tumor early enough.  She is now in chemo and will start radiation soon.  The in-laws were out for a visit last night and at dinner my mother-in-law said she is really craving some pulled pork.  Well no better reason to drop by Sam's and pick up a twin pack of butts for a weekend smoke.  The two totaled 13.87 pounds.

Two butts ready for some rubbing

This is the first time I have scored the fat cap on a butt.  Rubbed real good with Jan's rub.  Will sit about 24 hrs until they go into the OBS tomorrow night for some Hickory love.

Thank you all for the prayers.  They do help.  The  doctor's said they would not even do the surgery if once they got in there and it looked to be too late.  So at least the first step was good news.  I will post update pics when the smoke gets started tonight.

David your mother-in-law has our family's prayers. It sounds like it was caught early enough and pray for her quick recovery.

I know we all kind of get lost in our day to day lives with all the things going on. Sometimes we just need to stop for a moment and realize how precious life is. How quickly life as you know it can stop dead in it's tracks. I just recently had a friend that I had not spoke to in about year that died from pancreatic cancer. His was not caught early. The thing is that he did not tell anyone but his very close family members he was sick. I had many un-returned phone calls to him over the past year and just figured he was too busy to call me back. And the last time I saw him he gave no indication he was sick. I was a little angry with him not returning my calls but I did not know he was in a battle for his life. The truth is that he did not want to burden me with the news. That was the kind of guy he was. I wanted to be there for him. To the very end he was more worried about other people than himself and will be missed greatly....

Mike / Curt,

It is weird, pancreatic cancer is usually a male cancer.  My wife's best friend / college roomate, her younger brother passed about two months ago from it.  Two years younger than me - 42.  He was just as you guys described your friends.  Hid being sick.  Then it was too late to do anything.  Really hit our family as we were going through his illnes then to have a mother-in-law, grand mother to the kids, to be diagnosed with it.  But we are holding hope to early detection.
